In this interview, host Speaker A talks with Penny Fomby, the facilitator for the Wayne County Women Veterans Strong group, about their upcoming September social event. The event will take place at Aerobaland (also referred to as Arrow Blend Cafe), an indoor archery range that also offers coffee, tea, and pastries. Participants will learn or practice shooting a bow and arrow, with the organization covering all costs, so women veterans can attend without paying. Penny shares a humorous but cautionary personal story about her first attempt at archery, emphasizing safety and the desire to improve technique. Throughout the conversation, the emphasis is on sisterhood, community, and encouraging all women veterans in Southeast Michigan to join the activity and connect beyond the annual meeting.

All right, we're here with Penny Fomby. Penny is our group facilitator for our Wayne County group of Women Veterans Strong. Penny, tell us about the event you have coming up for our September social.
So our September social, we are going to actually go and learn a new skill together. We are going to go to Aerobaland Cafe where we're going to not only come together as a group, as a big happy family, and talk about our, our interests. We are going to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow. And if you already know how to shoot a bow and arrow, now is the time to sharpen your skills just a little bit more, and/or you can teach other women how to perfect it just like you. Penny, you said, you said cafe.
You said Arrow Blend Cafe. I thought we were shooting bows and arrows.
Well, at this fun event, it is not only a place to sharpen up on new skill, but you can also get a few refreshments, tea, coffee, or even some pastries.
Stop it. So it's like an indoor shooting range but for archery?
It is everything you need in one spot.
I didn't know that something like that existed, especially in Southeast Michigan. Shame on me. Thanks for finding this, Penny.
You're welcome. We are ready to learn together, embrace the power of sisterhood, and learn how to live life together by shooting some arrows and drinking some coffee.
Now, they don't have to pay for this, right? We're covering the tab. You told me I have to cover the tab, right?
Yes, the big boss has to cover the tab on this one. Leave the kids, leave your spouses, and come as yourself as a woman veteran.
That's right. Open to all of our women who've served in the military. Penny, have you shot a bow and arrow before?
It was not a pleasant first experience. You know, when you shoot a bow and arrow, you have to watch out for the top part because it will hit your eyebrow. My first time shooting a bow and arrow, I still have the bow, by the way. I was getting ready, I zeroed in, and I popped myself in the eye. It was not a fun experience.
But you're being brave, and you're going to do it again.
Yeah, I'm hoping to learn how to perfect it, how to correctly shoot a bow and arrow.
I love this. I've never shot a bow and arrow, like really shot it. I had one of those suction cup ones when I was little, and I remember being outside and shooting the house. And so that's— those are my memories with this. So I'm looking forward to this. Penny, thanks so much for arranging it. And I hope that all of you Women Veterans Strong ladies Get out there for your September socials and remember that we're actually here to do life together, not just see each other once a year.
