Three things you need to know before you start retinol. I am a board certified dermatologist. Start low and slow. Retinol was originally created for people with acne if you have blackheads and whiteheads, but it is one of the most powerful ingredients that we have for anti aging benefits to help with fine lines and wrinkles. But all you really need is just a pea sized amount for your whole face. Avoid the mouth area because that always gets irritated and make sure you apply at night. If you're sensitive, you can always use the retinol after your serums and your moisturizer so you create your own natural buffer system with your own skin care. If however, your skin is not sensitive, apply it to dry skin first before any serum or moisturizer in your nighttime routine and last, consistency over intensity. I would much rather you guys stick to a lower percentage of retinol and work your way up to using that every night of the week.
