Did you know that if you lose weight too quickly, it can absolutely age your face? Here are 4 things I would never do as a cosmetic dermatologist if I were trying to lose weight to save my face. Number 1, do not skip or skimp on protein because you want the weight that you are losing to come from fat, not muscle. Number 2, do not be afraid of weightlifting. Now, a lot of women particularly are scared of strength training because they do not want to look bulky. So it's not how it works. Resistance training done right is going to help to preserve your muscle, not just on your body but also on your face, and that is going to hold up our face in addition to the fact it's going to strengthen our bone density, the structure holding up our faces, because as we age, that thins out and we start melting. Number 3, do not wait until after you've lost all the weight to think about your skin, especially if you're thinking about starting a significant weight loss journey. You want to start thinking about skin tightening treatments earlier on so that your skin can stay nice and tight throughout this journey rather than become all of a sudden flabby and loosey-goosey. And last, do not treat weight loss like a sprint. Treat it like a marathon, because the faster you lose weight, the more likely it is to be noticeable in your face. And so after 40, it's really a choice between your face or your ass. And let's remember this: for every 10 to 15 pounds that you lose, you will see it on your face, especially after 40.
