A short YouTube clip by board-certified dermatologist Shereene Idriss arguing that fragrance in skincare is not inherently harmful for people with non-sensitive, 'unremarkable' skin and can offer aromatherapy and self-care benefits. The speaker advises people with eczema, rosacea, allergic contact dermatitis, or an inflamed skin barrier to avoid fragranced products.

Fragrance and skin care. Is it the devil? I'm a board certified dermatologist and I'm going to tell you no it's not. People avoid it like it's the plague or Covid at least in 2020. And honestly it's not such a devil of an ingredient. If you have eczema rosacea, sensitive skin, a history of allergic contact dermatitis and inflamed skin barrier, then yes I advise you to avoid fragrance laced products. But if you have what I call unremarkable skin, skin that is completely at equilibrium, you really are not very sensitive at all. You can tolerate probably the kitchen sink on your face but skincare with fragrance gives you relief. I say go for it because there's something called aromatherapy and skin care is self care and it makes you happy and makes you relaxed. Your skin is probably going to look better in the process too. So this that is why I do not demonize fragrance in skincare. Drop the toothbrush.
