Short skincare advice explaining why pimples leave hyperpigmentation (a tendency to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and suboptimal pimple care) and giving practical steps: immediate wound care with hydrocolloid patches after warm showers; topical antibiotics (prescription clindamycin) or over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide to dry pimples; during healing, sun avoidance and regular sunscreen to minimize pigment formation; and use of pigment-reducing ingredients (kojic acid, tranexamic acid, alpha arbutin, licorice root, niacinamide). Every pimple I get always leaves marks when they go away. Why and how can I fix it? Two things. You're prone to hyperpigmentation and probably you didn't take care of that pimple as efficiently as you could. So while the pimple is juicy, after a warm shower, put on a hydrocolloid patch to get all of that gunk sucked out of it faster in a much more efficient way. If you have access to prescription medications like clindamycin, great. If you don't, benzoyl peroxide over the counter can also help dry those suckers up. Now once the pimple is gone and it's in the healing process, this is where sun avoidance and sunscreen are going to be your best bet to minimizing hyperpigmentation in the long run. But if your skin is just prone to hyperpigmentation, you want to use products with ingredients like Kojic acid, tranexamic acid, alpha arbutin, licorice root, niacinamide to a certain extent so you can minimize how you produce pigment.
