No Skincare Lesson Today | 2025 End-of-Year Check-In ❤️

Dr. Shereene Idriss is stepping back from product-focused skincare lessons to focus on real life, aging, and parenting. She's launching a new product called Left Unread on January 4 and asking her audience what they want next: wellness routines, deeper aging discussions, fat transfer education, or a day in her life as a dermatologist-entrepreneur.

Happy Saturday, little nerds. I am currently in the mountains right now and I ran away from my family because I do not ski. I like to tell them that I've officially, officially and permanently retired, but the truth of the matter is I don't know how to ski and I have a terrible fear of heights. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have captured behind the scene moments that my husband has posted on my stories where I was really dealing with life or death in my head. But when I look back, it's kind of funny. The scenery is beautiful, we're on a family vacation and we're. We're currently in that weird time between Christmas and New Year's where we've eaten too many cookies, drank too much mulled wine and we don't know what day it is and everyone seems to be floating around. Luckily, I don't even know if they've noticed that I've escaped them, but this is where I am right now. And I know that a lot of you guys are probably in a similar sort of place. Maybe you're home, maybe you're away, maybe you're somewhere warm, maybe you're somewhere cold. Or maybe you're just trying to get through this time of year, which I know can be very hard for many of you. So if this season feels amazing and great, I am so, so genuinely happy for you because it is my favorite time of year. But if this season feels heavy, I want you to know that you're not alone, that you're not doing this thing on your own, and that you are very welcome here. So I didn't want to jump straight into a Happy New Year, New Everything video today. And I don't want to talk about skincare. I don't want to do a lesson today. I just wanted to show up as myself and I wanted to check in with all of you and see where you're all at. Because if you can believe it, I have been showing up every Saturday since 2020, which is kind of wild when I say it out loud that I have shown up almost every Saturday since then. And we have talked about skin care non stop. We've talked about ingredients, routines, things that matters, things that make no sense, scandals that are going on. But this year, I felt I needed to change direction a tiny bit. Why? I don't know. I'm in my 40s now, my kids are getting older. I'm learning things about myself I probably should have figured out earlier in life, but here we are. And I realized I didn't just want this channel to be about slap that on your face or slap this on your face to make your skin better because your skin doesn't exist in a vacuum and neither do you. And I wanted to really connect the in and the out. And so in 2025 I intentionally, I don't know if you guys noticed, slowed things down a tiny bit with there was less noise, there was more intention, it was more about habits, more about understanding, more about consistency, more about who we are and less about chasing every single new product that launches, as it turns out, on a Tuesday. And I still hate Tuesdays. But today I also just wanted to sit with you guys for a minute or four. Not to teach, not to explain, but just to have a little chitchat. I wasn't going to do a get ready with me and act like I'm putting my makeup cuz I don't know how to focus and do that. And I want to flip this around and genuinely ask all of you guys, what is it that you guys want to see more about in 2026? I read your comments every week, but I would love to have it all here where I want to know where you're at right now. Do you want more real life routines and habits? Do you want to connect the wellness conversation back to your skin? Do we want to have deeper conversations or talks about aging, skin longevity and even cosmetic treatments like fat transfers, which I am obsessed with, without any fear mongering, without any judgment? Or do you guys want to see a realistic day in the life of me, a dermatologist who owns her practice, who also owns a skincare brand who is a mother of two? Or do we want to have these unscripted conversations like now where I don't pretend that I have everything figured out? I would love for you guys to tell me in the comments and I do seriously read them. I may not always answer them, but you guys have made me rethink several times entire videos that I've already recorded. As for me for next year, where do I see myself? I don't know. My kids are getting older. It has completely messed me up in terms of how I look at time and think of time in a good way and in a very terrifying way. And I have also realized that I don't want to rush through this part of life where I'm constantly thinking of the thing ahead, how to get them ready, how to keep going with what's the next goal, what's the next thing and I don't need to be a perfect mom that I have come to terms with it is not me, it is not in my DNA and they need one who's just actually there. And that is the thing that I'm working on the most. So that's where I am personally, professionally. I'm just super excited for my skincare practice. Idris Dermatology we are expanding physically and building out new treatment rooms. We're going to be pushing newer problem solutions that we are offering in real life, in clinic, every single day. And I'm also diving in deep into the world world of fat, which I have always been obsessed with and I've always been sad that people have been demonizing fat. And with the skincare brand Dr. Idris, I want to keep making skincare that feels approachable, that is rooted in science and understanding and education and that is realistic to use without overwhelming all of you guys. I might also start a substack. Don't hold me to it. There are no promises. But I want to dive in deeper where I can get my pen, my thoughts down pen to paper and really have more thoughtful conversations. Because the way social is going is becoming so knee jerk reaction and people are chasing virality, whereas I'm really chasing relationships with all of you guys. I think we spend so much time living five steps ahead that we often also forget to notice where we actually are, how far we've actually come. And so also in 2026, one thing that I'm trying to do differently is actually slow down in order to go fast. And honestly, I'm gonna avoid skiing. That part is a non negotiable. I'm gonna make sure the algorithm does not give me those death reels that it's been serving me at night. And I do regret ever introducing the elf on the shelf to my kids. So those are the two probably biggest things right now at this point in time. But being part of your routine, your real life has meant more to me than I can ever explain to you. The fact that you guys have let me in, allowed me to show up in your lives and allowed me to help you in ways that I never could have imag the world. To me, sharing the science is easy, but helping people help themselves and build themselves back up and actually stick to it, that's the part that I've loved the most about this whole thing. Which is why our first video back in 2026 is going to be very practical. It's going to be about layering winter skin care. But there is something new coming on January 4th. So if you struggle with redness, if you are somebody who doesn't understand inflamed skin barrier, rosacea, you name it, or in between, look for something new. Launching on January 4th. We've introduced it on the brand's Instagram, but it's called Left Unread and I'm very excited. It's something very grounding, something very useful for a lot of people who didn't know how to who to turn to, who feel like their redness eats up their face and that their emotions shows up before they ever do. So until then, I hope that today feels calm. I hope that you're with people that you actually like and respect. And I hope you're giving yourself a little bit of credit for how far you've come and this year or how far you've come over the past few years, even if no one else has noticed. Thank you so much for being here. I am eternally grateful and I'm eternally yours. I'll see you guys in 2,026.
