So as someone with a lot of melanin, why do I have post inflammatory erythema?
It's actually regardless of your skin tone, whether you're white as a ghost or dark as dark can be, everybody has post inflammatory erythema. I'm a dermatologist, I'm here to help. Post inflammatory erythema, also known as PI, happens to every single human being under the sun regardless of your skin tone. Why? Because of this guy right here. Your heart and your blood circulating all over your body. With inflammation comes redness and in the fancy medical jargon that is known as post inflammatory erythema regardless of your skin tone. Here we have exhibit A and as you can see he has post inflammatory erythema which is from his acne marks because he's white.
White as can be.
Here we have exhibit B. Now she is much more melanated but if you look closely you can see that there is some erythema underneath the surface of her skin. She is blessed. She's hardly ever had acne.
