Dermatologist Shereene Idriss argues the EWG is an activist group profiting from chemophobia, not a scientific authority. The organization conflates theoretical hazards with real risks, discourages sunscreen use, and makes money through clean-beauty certifications and affiliate links. Dermatologists and public health experts say this fear-mongering causes real harm.

CNN posting this shit right before Memorial Day. Because using the EWG as a sunscreen authority is like asking this guy to run our health department.
I'm not scared of a germ, I used to snort cocaine off a toilet seat.
The EWG is an activist organization that has built its entire brand around scaring people from chemicals that they do not understand. Case in point, this shit right here, which demonstrates the fact that they do not even understand the difference between a mineral or a chemical sunscreen, or the fact that that both are indeed chemicals, the same way that you, my little human friend, is a chemical too. Now, some may argue some of you are toxic and we stay away from you, but most of you are not. EWG is neither a neutral toxicology body, scientific body, or regulatory body for that matter, and has been criticized by dermatologists, scientists, and public health experts for years for blurring the line between theoretical hazards and real-life risks.
And let's be honest about the financial incentives, because money, money, money, money, and fear sells.
And so conveniently, they profit from that fear through clean beauty certification, brand affiliations, and even EWG verifications. That means that anytime a publication links one of their products through an affiliate link, they win too. Say what you want, but that's not independent science, it's monetized chemophobia. Meanwhile, UV damage is real, skin cancer deaths are real, and if you just don't care, it will make you look older faster. And the biggest irony of all, in trying to scare people away from using sunscreens, they have caused far more harm than the ingredients that they have spent years scaring you all about could ever do.
