Dermatologist Shereene Idriss compares two skin-tightening treatments. Thermage uses radiofrequency heat for quick results but relies partly on swelling, while Ulthera uses ultrasound to penetrate deeper for slower but longer-lasting tightening.

So Thermage versus Ulthera. There are basically two vehicles. One is a 4x4, okay. The other is a motorcycle. They're both going to get you from point A to point B, but in different ways. Thermage uses radio frequency heat that causes the collagen fibers to contract, which can give you sort of an instant gratification. And then over time it creates new collagen formation which is going to firm and tighten your skin. I like it for people with creepy like prune like skin, better wash. Why? Because they see that sort of instant gratification. But that is also misleading because a lot of it is due to swelling and it's going to pass. Ulthera is ultrasound energy heat, which goes deeper. It takes more time to see results. But if you are somebody who is saggier with more weight, I prefer Ulthera to Thermage.
