This YouTube short (Under Eye Bags #shorts) features board-certified dermatologist Shereene Idriss explaining causes of under-eye bags. She distinguishes between fat-pad-related protrusion (orbital fat pushing through a weakening septum, often genetic and age-related) and fluid-related puffiness, and calls topical tightening products largely cosmetic gimmicks.

Under eye bags. Why are they such a bitch to get rid of? I'm a board certified dermatologist and let's understand the differences when it comes to under eye bags. Because some are due to fat pads popping through, creating a poof underneath your eyes, whereas other people just get puffy because of excess fluid. This is what happens when you have under eye fat pads. Everybody actually has them. They're called orbital fat. They come in three little pockets. They're usually held back by a septum. So sort of like Spanx that stick. Stick them in. But as we get older, that Spanx loosens up and our bone structure also gets a little bit wider and our fat pads poof protrude. And this is usually predisposed before you were born based on your biological family members, so you can thank them for that. Products like this guy will probably give the appearance of helping because it's going to make it look tighter. But in fact, it's all a gimmick and it's all just a party trick. Once you put makeup on top of it, it will pill and look crusty.
