You have to make sure that you are looking at the forest and not the single tree, meaning you're looking at the week as an overview and not looking at every single day as your end-all be-all. In the wintertime, I tend to exfoliate 3 nights a week or 4 depending, alternating between retinols nights in order to avoid any sort of irritation. You need to remember that exfoliating acids shed dead skin cells, whereas retinols help to increase cell turnover. So you're going to have new baby skin coming in. Doing both of these actions on the same night can be way too much for many people. So you want to separate them, especially if you're not used to retinols.
