Apparently all the celebrities are going to these infrared gyms so I decided to go. Apparently a lot of celebrities also do drugs and I choose not to. I'm a 39 year old dermatologist. I actually struggle with a condition known as melasma. It is hiding underneath my makeup over here. But melasma is a condition where you get these brown patches that flare up on your face. What causes them to flare up? Heat. Not just sunlight. Heat plus hormones, certain medications, etc. If you have melasma, definitely do not approach infrared lights. It can cause an inflammatory response even though technically it is anti inflammatory. When it comes to melasma specifically, it can induce a chronic inflammatory response that allows your blood vessels to then dilate, bringing in more blood, more heat to your face and allowing your melanocytes to get more stimulated and your melasma to worsen in the process. It's also I personally I just don't make a habit of using any sort of steam bath or sauna or infrared light device. But every once in a while knock yourself out.
