Your Money Story is Running Your Business and You Don't Even Know it

In this video, Shirley Palmer‑hunt (Millionaire Mountain Woman TV) explains how unconscious "money stories"—the beliefs and traumas about money formed in childhood or early life—can silently dictate the decisions, pricing, and growth of women entrepreneurs. She illustrates the concept with personal anecdotes, such as memories of her grandmother preparing meals, and uses the metaphor of a scab that keeps being disturbed to show how unhealed money trauma repeatedly resurfaces in business. Palmer‑hunt contrasts the limiting "valley" mindset (scarcity, self‑doubt) with the empowering "mountaintop" mindset (abundance, confidence) and argues that recognizing and reframing these stories is essential for making decisions from a place of power. The video provides three concrete journaling prompts: (1) write down the first money story you remember, (2) identify where that story shows up in your current business, and (3) imagine how your business would look if decisions were made from mountaintop thinking. She encourages viewers to journal, reflect, and share their insights, while also promoting upcoming journaling guides and e‑books. The overall message is that by surfacing and flipping money stories, entrepreneurs can break free from hidden self‑sabotage and operate from a place of abundance.

So this— the title of today's video is Your Money Story or Your Money Trauma Is Running Your Business and You Don't Even Know It. So sit back, Um, sit in, look in, um, grab a notepad if you wish, and let's go on this journey. It's, it's fabulous. Please stay till the end because like and subscribe and we'll bring you more of these amazing connections. So this, for this week, we're gonna jump into this story, um, and this discussion. Um, you are— you started the business, you're doing the work. You're on the road, but something keeps pulling you back. You underprice, you overgive, you can't raise your rate without feeling guilty. This is a trend often found in us women, women entrepreneurs. I'm not saying it's not, you know, exclusive to women, but There's a part of us as women that sometimes we we give some more in the business. We give and we give. So we're sticking to the point. We feel guilty. We we we get opportunities and deals, and sometimes we sabotage them. We we we we hold back or shrink back when it's time to scale up. Well. Let's cut to the chase and get to the point that this isn't a strategy problem. As I've been in business for many years, I realize it's a money story problem. The money stories from our past, whether it's from our neighborhood, whether it's from our parents, our grandparents, things that we observe in our childhood over and over again, Sometimes we're not conscious that we've even observed them and all internalized them, but they come with us to our business to sabotage, to wreak havoc, to play with our confidence. So let's take a look on the money stories that we often have. I'm— my money story began in my childhood, and it's taken me years to actually discuss this because sometimes we don't want to discuss things out of shame or timidity. But when you come to this channel, this is time for us to let go of shame, let go of timidity, and walk slightly, tiny little bit forward. And we're talking about the money stories that run— come into our businesses and runs the business really because we're running it from that energy and not the mountaintop thinking, not the mountaintop energy that we talked about on our previous video. So what is a money story actually doing in the business? What is its role? What is it doing? We talk about money trauma And a good example that I can use, hopefully it doesn't— it's not off-putting, but it's so relevant to everybody, don't matter who you are, where you live. It's trauma. It's like when you have a cut and it begins to heal over, and as it heals, it itches a bit, it feels a bit uncomfortable, sometimes it's tightening, but it's the fact that it's healing. But sometimes we we go back to that scab and we we we we adjust it, we push it, we move it around. And what is happening is we by interfering with it, it's it's failing to heal. So by looking at a money story, the money story comes over wounds or ideas that we have, and it says, remember this, remember that. Um, you know, that type of pricing, you're not, you're not there yet. When will you actually be there? But the, the role of the money story is that you're not there yet, not quite. Are you resonating with this? Can you think of an example of when money story will come? Money story tends to show up telling you these stories from the past, these ideas that it's created about you and about yourself, about your ethnicity, about your neighborhood where you come from. Well, a $2,000 course, who's gonna buy that from you? Do you actually think you've got it in you to do that? Really? So the difference is with this mountaintop thinking and Mountaintop Millionaire Mountain Woman TV is that we begin to look at these stories. We begin to take the mask off them, unveil them, and to open up. I'll tell you where my money story, some of my memories of money stories come from. I remembered as a child in the little village that I was born in, raised in, that my grandmother Would set the meals. We would sit on the floor to eat, and the clean vessels or plates or bowls would be— with the spoons would be for each child as we sat on the floor. And I think my grandmother maybe sat on the floor, but my grandfather would sit in a chair or sit on a stool, and we'd be getting ready. But as we got ready, my My grandmother, she would be singing, she'd be humming, and she'd be praying. But she'd put the saucepan on, she'd put the water in, and it would be bubbling. But not all the time, there would be no food. But she'd sing, she'd pray, she'd boil the water, she'd get everything ready, she'd get the fire Going. And then in the distance, I would see, I would see one of my children, one of my uncles coming, or my— if my grandfather wasn't sat down yet, you'd see him coming, coming in, in the distance on the donkey. And there would be the food. And all she would have to do then is peel that food, put it in the saucepan, then, and cook it and boil it for us. and serve us and we'd all be full to overflowing. But the thing is, the pattern is that she never stopped singing and she boiled the water. She was prepared. She was ready. And as I think of my money story, for my money story, I could draw on the 2 examples or 2 analogies from this story. One is That there's not enough food. There's no food there. You come from a neighbourhood where there'd be no food to cook, and yet your mother— grandmother would sing. Or I could take the analogy as my grandmother was always prepared to be full, to overflowing. It doesn't matter what presented itself. She always knew that she would not only cook enough food, she would cook enough and we'd all eat and we'd be overflowing. So it's which of the stories I take from that first money story. So think about your money stories that show up. When, when you begin to do your pricing, when you begin to see a potential business opportunity and an opportunity to do a quote or do a deal, and there's that sinking feeling that comes— what should I charge? How much should it be? How much are they prepared to pay? What size of business am I? Those are the whispers that come in. So think, think, think about that. These are the money stories that come in, they whisper, bring in the past stories about type of neighborhood you are, type of family you were raised in. So that is what I would call whispering. Of valid thinking. So the scab wanting not to be healed because we're interfering with it instead of letting energy flow from us for our business. Energy flows would be about the value that we're bringing to the table and how that product or how that service would serve that person well. We let that idea of who we are and our past come in and overlay. So the scab is a money story that comes over and over and lays itself over. But to heal fully and for the scab to come off and disappear, we have to let the blood flow through it, the energy flow through it. And let the the body know do what is right for us. For for us. So our money stories, we can either flip them upside down and let the powerful energy run into our business and the value and the growth of our business, or we can just stand back. And be diminished. So, okay, so we're continuing with the money story. Is a money story is running our business and we don't even know it. So I talked about my first memory of our money or the thought of having enough because it wasn't definitely an exchange of money but the thought of having enough or wealth. First, I observed from my childhood, and I can do two one of two things when money story shows up. Money stories can show up as powerful for me and beneficial to me, whereby I I see my my grandmother's. Singing and her preparedness for the meals and for cooking in a negative light, as, hmm, here we go again, there's a pattern of not having enough, having to scramble each time to get something, and oh, it shows up in my business, waiting. Waiting for the opportunity, faltering each time, being timid to come forward. Or I can pull the power from that money story, and the power is that my grandmother sang, she praised, she Got all the table ready. If we were sitting on the floor outside, she'd covered— she would— or uncovered in the sunshine, she would have the plates ready. Each person would have their vessel or their plates and their spoon or their fork. And while we were sitting there or we're running around, she'd put the water on, she'd Boil the water ready for the food to be cooked, and whatever meat product she'd have, she'd be cutting it up in small pieces so that each person— or large pieces so everyone can have. But for the food, for the yam, for the, the, the, the, the potatoes, from the, from the bananas, should be waiting for that to arrive, the overflow. So I could see in a positive way, if I turn that to my benefit, Being in an energy to receive, setting my vessels out ready at all times, and always having a word of praise, a word of thanks, as what is mine is coming. And not only coming, it's coming in plenty. That's how I can flip it around, or I can make that— that story could torment me. So Remember, money stories are there, but we also have power as well. So remember, money story, negative ones that whisper in your ears or whisper on the screen of your mind, they don't just leave because you've got a business license. Okay, she's got business license, I'm gonna leave. It's my chance now to get away, but it comes back at every tenure. Oh, you can't do cold calling? To get clients, you have to do some, a bit of cold calling to begin with. What's cold calling? Uh, just finding the names of businesses and phone numbers and making a call and reaching out to see if the service that you have It's something that would— I'm petrified. Oh my God, I know that. Well, you shouldn't be doing it because you're frightened. So it— that's how it turns up. You're petrified. I mean petrified. Look at that phone, stare at it for a while. Oh my God, you can't do it. And then you see your skills, you see your talents, you see everything that you have on display, you see the amazing product that you've made, um, the remedies that you've made, and you've got the quotes for it, you've got everything ready, you've got them parceled ready, and you know that they're good. But this money story comes up whispering or showing, showcasing itself in some way or the other. Like, you can know, you know, when this money story turned up in a negative way, it's like Are you serious? Do you honestly think, honestly think, think about it, anyone's gonna buy a course from you for $2,000? Maybe you should take it down to $200 if that's all it's worth. Don't you think it's a bit over the top trying to sell a natural body product cream for $60,000? I mean, who do you think you are? You're not a brand name. It's only brand names that do stuff like that. You feel that trepidation and fear. So when you feel that and you sit back into it and that whisper, that negativity, that pulling you down, There's yes, there's oh it's only being realistic, but realistic is measuring what you do and the value of what you do. It's not pulling down everything you do in a negative way. So that there's this differentiating between the two. And so, as you can see in the background, I have my background because I'm in the mountains, right? Live in the mountains, and you can see the. In my background, the birds are feeding, um, on the little tiny little bits in the— in my, in my garden, as it's a new garden. You see the bird running along and you see the potatoes, you see the leaves of the raspberry tree. It's supposed to be little, but it's really huge. So that's the background. Um, it's not clinical background, it's a background of living, mountain living. So going back to our story, so, so you've broken through, you break through, and you think, no, it's worth it. I know the value. I know what I, I've done and what I know I can do. I know the services. I know what I've created. And then you get the breakthrough, you get the, the right fee for what you've Says it out to be an here comes money story. Remember that scab we talked about that should be healing? It's coming back and repeating and touching and touching, so the blood flow is interrupted and everything has to be done again. The body's doing— redefining itself, healing itself again, so it comes again. So you, you price, you get your quote, You secure the business. Good for you. You think money store is going to stop there? No, here it comes again. You don't think. You don't actually think that you're going to repeat that. You think this trend is going to last? I think it's a one-off. And that's how money story turns up. Trauma, traumatic money stories turn up. So this is how we're discussing the money stories that run your business. So this is a money story. Well, and then when we talk about this channel, we really have focus on this channel and the name of the channel, Millionaire Mountain Woman TV. We're thinking about mountaintop thinking, so we're going to contrast what I call the money stories, the money whispers, the negative money story, with what the mountaintop should be. And while we're doing that, we're going to pause and we're going to put up the picture that we have of the mountaintop thinking. So let's pause and let's do that. So here comes the mountaintop thinking, the powerful symbolism that we're using. There she is, there we are, right in that mountaintop space. Right, okay. So when we're in that mountaintop thinking, we're in that mountaintop space, we've touched the mountains, you're thinking about who you've become against in versus what you're still carrying. So when you're in that mountaintop space, you're in a wealth energy. You're full to overflow. Your quotes are phenomenal. You're getting corporate quotes, getting larger quotes. You, you're making products in multiples or in sizes that will sell in volume. All the, the know-how and the how to get your product out is coming to you, and they're there as you dwell in that mountaintop thinking. That's space. But the valley is where you learned about the negativities about money. Money doesn't grow on trees. Um, the people in this type of neighborhood, these people don't get the right type of education, they'll never make it. Those type of negative things. You're not good enough. You come— the whispers. But when the mountaintop thinking, when you're up in that mountaintop space and you look on that diagram I have up there, powerful, is that when you're in that mountaintop space, nothing has stopped you. You think about it, nothing has stopped you because you're there. So that's the space we need to get into, and that's when money's story can be flipped on its head, upside down, and also not just flipped, like moved out of our space as we walk into that energy So you are there standing in the mountaintop in your business. For every business, there's a mountaintop space, and there's no one that can tell you what that space should be. You're the best person to Think it through. You may need help to pull it out, but first pull from yourself and from your heart, from what you want in that space, what the sales volume that you want, the people you want to sit at your business table, the type of negotiating rooms that you sit in, where you command that room quietly, gently, powerful seat in that room, and where in that room you have value. You're valued for who you are and what you're worth, what your products are, and the value of your products and your service to other people is, is far-reaching and vibrant and powerful. So that's a mountaintop thinking for your business. I have the mountaintop thinking for my business. So this is where we talk about the mountaintop. So the valley to the mountaintop, you could say, well, it's all right, you're saying this, And it's all right me visualizing, but I'm actually stuck. How do I get to that place? And how do I translate what is in my mountaintop thinking to the actual real world? And so my thinking is now is what we talk about, about this channel and how we're going to move forward in it. So at this point, I think it's time to— you've got a notepad here, or it could be a journal, but I use a notepad for my journaling because I like the— I chose this one in particular because I like the color, I like the fact there's gold on it. And I can bring it up further, it's bits of gold, pink, and then beautiful. So whatever your journal looks like, grab your journal now, and if you say, well, I'm not into journaling as such, if you draw, get your paintbrush out now or get your drawing pencil, get your soft colors, oil painting, oil, whatever you like to paint in. And if you, you play music, you may want to make some notes, play with some notes as we walk through this journaling journey together. So number 1, the prompt number 1 for your journal is Write down the first money story you remember. Was it as an observation? Was it something someone said? Write it down, and I'll write down. I'd already written down, but I'm I'm happy to write down again that money story. Because I have my grandmother's observation and I have other observations of money as I, as a child and as a young person, that actually influenced my money story as I've got older. And it's the journaling experience that has helped me a lot because the journaling has helped me to look, take a good look at what is actually happening. So my first, my first journaling, my first one that I write down is the meal and available food. I link that to abundance. Okay, what the other thing is, say, write down what when you observe this or when this you heard this person talking about money, um, what did they say about money? When you actually talk about wealth, the thing of having enough, they're being present when they talk about money. I'm gonna— my second thing is, is when, when I ever— every time I asked my father for money just before I went to school, on the way to school we'd buy sweets or candies from the little tiny little store and to eat while we go along. My father always said, Look in my trousers pocket and whatever there is, just take some out. And so my father was teaching me something about money that stayed with me, I think, even though in the pressure, even in the negative times, I have to learn to draw on what was said. And what was said to me didn't cause trauma in that sense. It reminded me that money was available. And so that was my second thing, so I'll be writing that down. Available, help yourself. So is that a money trauma? No, not necessarily. I don't use that example as a money trauma. because that's what I remember first about money. So if you want to do the same, that's prompt number 1. And then please, um, take the time. And then your prompt number 2 for your journaling is now look at your business, whether it's just starting If it's in the middle or many years ahead, where is that same money story showing up? Where's that same money story showing up? So, number 2. I think my money stories really became traumatic when I became self-employed and I had phenomenal amount of money in self-employment, but there'd be times when there was not as much. And so in the time when there was not much, I'd become very fearful. So when does that show up? That's my money story in not my childhood, in my adult life. So, so not enough. So when does that show up now? It shows up now when things go quiet in my business. I fill that void with fear. Now I give you the space to consider and write down or Draw or play a piece of music or have something ready for when does that money story show up in your business? It's a whisper sometimes. So that's your money prompt. So it requires a very honest review and writing down of things as they honestly are that show up in a negative way. For me, the blinding pause when things seem to be quiet, instead of filling it with times of mountaintop thinking, begin to tell stories of how things are not enough. But I think what is powerful from this journaling exercise, and if you do that journaling, do this exercise maybe once or twice a week, it pushes us to pause and to think, what is going on here? So the successful thing about this video, about the content about money trauma running your business, is that if we don't see the trauma, if we don't identify it, then it's harder to release. You can't release something that you can't see. You can't Do an analysis of something if you can't see it. If there's a bug somewhere, unless you see the bug, a destructive bug, whether it's on your computer or there's a life bug, it's not good, it's not right. If you can't see it and make some decisions about it and the impact it's having and pull it out, you can't release it. So the first thing is that we've done today in this video is we've done looking at that story, looking at the money whisper that comes in, and the success that we've taken away from this is that we're actually having identified it, we're aware of it, and when you're aware of something's coming, you prepared for it? So what we're going to do about it? And that's where the whole idea of mountaintop thinking is. And one of the biggest things in business is about our decision-making. We can make a decision from a, a, a, a, a perspective of height. And like that picture up there, the mountaintop, right, that's a mountaintop picture right up there. So, you know, there's a mountaintop and then there's the valley. We're not showing the valley, but we're looking at the mountaintop thinking, and that's where we— if we make decisions from mountaintop thinking, from thinking that we're the best that we can be, we're strong, we're talented, what we have has value. If we make decisions from that point, we will not get a sinking feeling, and when someone or a business or someone comes along to diminish you and say that what you're doing is not good enough and they would like to slash this point, price of it and take it down to this level and taking that down to that level. You stand strong in mountaintop thinking, and you're not making the decision to accept or not accept from a position of a traumatic experience of money or wealth or plenty. But one where you're strong in that decision. And the decision-making in business fueled by energetic, powerful mountaintop thinking is where business thrives. Doesn't mean that there's no obstacles, but you begin on— you start on the right foot, right level. And as an entrepreneur, this type of information would have found so powerful when I first started out. And so the powerfulness of this and the meaningfulness of this video and this series and this channel is to support you on your entrepreneurial journey. Whatever scale it may be, the mountaintop thinking. We've done the, the prompt 1, prompt 2, and I wanted to go back to now to prompt 3. Prompt 3 that I'm thinking of is now write what would business look like If I made money decisions from the mountaintops, what would the— I repeated that, but I'm repeating it again as prompt 3 because I think before it got caught up in 2. So what would my business look like if I made decisions from the mountaintop? This is a time to breathe, um, time not to rush. And time to really think, what would my business look like if I made decisions from a mountaintop thinking? From the decisions would come actions that would reflect mountaintop thinking. And the value of that business for me would be 1,000 times more than it is currently if I think from a mountaintop thinking and all my actions came and decisions came from mountaintop thinking. So I think Prompt 3 is so powerful. I think If there's such thing as homework, would be to take prompt 3 away and make some comments below on prompt 3. Some of the ideas— don't, don't sell your ideas online, um, just reflect on, on them. You don't have to be specific, um, but keep that note for yourself and for your business growth. So prompt 3 is, you know, what's linking us to our success moves? We were stuck in the valley and we found a way to get to the mountain we're climbing, but when we're stuck, what's the condition? We begin to journal, we begin to think through. So success move for your business and my business is to think from mountaintop, begin to journal, begin to write, especially write the— on focus on prompt 3, what your business would look like if you made the decisions And you thought through from a mountaintop thinking, that space where you can see everything. You don't have to dwell on the valley because you've been through the valley experience, but you're at the very top. You're there already. Everything is coming to you that is rightly yours. We're not talking about an ideal world, but we're talking about space in that world. Where your business is doing well and it's functioning at top level. So comment below, tell me what your mountains— share, tell me, share what your money stories are that's coming, showing up in your business, the old narratives, when you identify them, what you're going to do in the future when they turn up. And then also write about, you know, success from the mountaintop, thinking what your business would look like, draw it, you can write a story about it, you can write a piece of music about it, however you like to record, however you like to journal. So in this mountaintop, Millionaire Mountaintop, TV. I'll also be releasing, um, the journaling guides, ebooks, anything that can assist you. And as we link them below, you can take advantage of these opportunities as we release them. You can purchase them and make use of them for yourself. Thank you for watching, and we look forward to having your comments, having your likes, your subscribing to the channel as we are on this journey together.
