Personal Branding In Real Life (#FIREHOUR S4, E4)

In this FIRE Hour session, the facilitator and Michael Resurreccion lead a candid conversation that weaves together personal development, New Year’s resolutions, and practical strategies for building momentum in business and life. They critique traditional resolutions, advocating for a continuous "way of living" mindset focused on daily improvement. Michael introduces the concept of measuring 30‑day momentum—energy, progress, and preparation for the next steps—across all life areas, emphasizing intentional action, KPI tracking, and self‑reflection. The dialogue then shifts to personal branding, illustrating how Michael’s b‑boy background (stage name Shangana) taught him core marketing principles: performance, word‑of‑mouth, and high‑status networking. He explains how reputation, respect, and being a "super connector" unlock doors, turning personal brand equity into business opportunities. The session underscores leadership responsibility for one’s own momentum, the power of mindset over perceived "slow seasons," and the importance of building a network that actively brings opportunities to you rather than you chasing them. Throughout, the tone is conversational, motivational, and instructional, aiming to inspire participants to adopt a growth‑oriented lifestyle, leverage personal brand assets, and create sustainable business momentum.
Chapters
Is anyone still on their New Year's resolutions? Did you guys have New Year's resolutions? Um, are you guys still sticking with it? Um, yesterday I went to a yoga class and I noticed there was a huge drop-off. Literally like more than half the class was gone already and it's only just the end of January. It was insane. I was like, Is today like some type of day that I don't know, a holiday or something? But yes, it came and went in a blink of an eye. Yeah, but people are already dropping off from class and I was like, oh my gosh. But I think that's why I don't make New Year's resolutions anymore. I feel like it's just something that it kind of puts this unnecessary pressure on you, right? Where if you like, don't put that pressure on yourself, like this is a New Year's resolution and I have to do this and it has to be perfect. Whereas instead it's just a way of life, a way of living to always improve in every area that you can without really setting this like hard goal of like putting all this pressure on yourself. And you're just like, I just want to get better every day. I just want to get better every year, every month. I just want to continue getting better and working on this or that. I feel like it alleviates the pressure and you start to change your mindset from this is just kind of like a goal because most of the time once you hit the goal, you set another goal or If you don't hit the goal, you kind of go backwards. But it's just more of a way of living, you know?
I don't know.
What about you guys? What do you guys think? New Year's resolutions. Who's still on it? Who's still— who's still going stronger? Do you guys even set one anymore, you know, or do you guys just change it to like just a way of living? Anna says mine is to discern what aligns with me and what doesn't, and to let go of what no longer serves me. No more settling for less. It's more of a new philosophy as opposed to a New Year's resolution. Yes, way of living. I love that. I love that a lot. Um, and yeah, you know, I was reading something, um, I was reading something earlier and it was just talking about like how, you know, when you're trying to force something, it's like you're trying to force an attachment or you're trying to force anything. Like, um, it's, it's just not natural and it's just not going to happen, right? But the soul craves connection, you know. And so when you actually connect with someone or something on a personal level, like it's a connection, like it's natural, as opposed to like an attachment, um, things just flow a lot more easily. So evaluating maybe the people around you, the things that you're doing, and like really asking yourself the questions like is this serving me? Like, what is my goal? Um, where am I going in life? And is this something that's going to get me there, right? Because it's so easy. Um, it is so easy to get lost when you're so focused on just trying to attach and like forcing things. And sometimes you think like, you know, this is a good thing to do, like I do like doing this, but then you have to start to think about like, what is the ultimate goal? Like, what do you see long term and where do you see yourself? You know, and we all fall into that sometimes. But I think again, with the self-awareness, the more self-aware we are of ourselves and our habits, the easier it is to kind of be like, wait, like, what am I doing again? Like, I'm doing that thing again and I don't want to do that, you know? So let's see. Andy says Ultimate Thrivor made me do it and now it's become an addiction. Yes. Good for you. I mean, I can't wait to see all the before and after photos for Ultimate Thrivor. I'm so excited to see, like, I'm already like, who's going to be the finalist? Like, who are we going to vote for? Because you guys know that every single year we always have our team or our team's customers and they usually, you know, get put up to vote. And usually when that happens, everyone's like, hey, this is my friend, like, vote for them, like, vote for them. And we have such a huge community full of so much love and support that, you know, the people on our team or like the people, the customers that we have, like, they get supported like nothing else, right? So I'm so excited. I'm sure you guys are too. And I can't wait to see all of your photos. But yes, happy Wednesday, Ange. We are going to get started. We were just talking about New Year's things and alignment, like connection as opposed to attachment, and really just becoming a better version of ourselves and not just setting necessarily like a goal every single year, but actually just like we're just going to be better, we're just going to get better, right? Like it's not a New Year's resolution, it's not a one-time thing. It's not only in the beginning of the year, but it's all of the years. So just a little chit-chatting.
Okay, go on, man.
No, I don't know what we're going over today. I think Sean said last call it was going to be marketing. Um, take it away.
What's going on, everyone? So yeah, the last, the last, uh, fire hour we had was, yeah, marketing, but it was more on like the intangible side. Um, but just to wrap up what you were talking about, like alignment and New Year's goals, um, like it's already the 30th, it's already like the end of January, right?
Yeah.
So the 31st. So, uh, my question to everyone here, and like, this is what you should be asking, or I would encourage you to ask yourself, is for the past 30 days, right? For the past entire month, right? This is, and this could be at any point in the year. Right? So if it's February, at the end of February. If it's March, the end of March. If it's April, the end of April, right? Ask yourself this question: how much momentum did I create this month? And momentum, what I mean by that is, you know, how much energy, how much progress, how much, uh, did you get done? How much did you tee yourself up to the next step? How much did you actually prepare and You know, fuel, right, for yourself to propel you to the next level. And this could be in anything, right? This could be in all aspects of your life. So for this month specifically, like in your business, right? In your business, how much momentum have you created for yourself? And it doesn't, it doesn't mean that, like, let's say for example, like you start off with zero, right? $0 in, in sales., at the beginning of the month. And then at the end of the month, you still have $0 in sales, right? Well, that's just one aspect of business. But what about all the people? How many people have you added to your list? Right? How many people have you been warming up? How many people have you been reaching out to? How many people have you been consistently pinging and making aware and getting their attention? Right? So all this leads up because remember, it's 30 60 and 90-day windows, right? It's a 90-day window to create massive momentum, but it happens in 30-day windows, in 30-day sprints. Okay? So ask yourself that question. Like, how much momentum have you created in the past 30 days? You're going to get her.
Are you asking me to get her?
Yeah, it seems like.
I'm a very direct person, so when people go around in circles, I get very confused. What do you want me to do?
The baby's, uh, needs screaming. Yeah.
She's screaming. She's not going back to sleep.
Yeah. So she's going to stay awake. All right. Yeah. So that's one question to ask yourself. Uh, and the reason why it's because, you know, there's many different metrics, right? KPIs, but it's just important to gauge yourself to, to like, know, like, know yourself, you know, know, like, how much have you actually done and be realistic. And if you had like a, if you had a goal sheet or a list of goals that you're able to actually track, then, you know, it's really important to, to reflect on that because the end of the month, right? Reflect on everything and, and you maybe reflect on it at the beginning, but however you want to do that, uh, really, it's really important to, yeah, be intentional. Like you said, Ang, be intentional with everything that you're doing. Like, why do it at all if there's no purpose or intention behind it, right? Angela says congrats. Congrats, Bobby, Brittany, Joanna, Angela, Alexis, Somali, Marissa, Odette. I can't really see. Alexandra, Lakana. Did I say that right? Veronica, Abby, Julianne, Lorenza, Virginia, Sarah. Getting new Thrivers on. This is amazing. G-Pot, getting people on Thrive. No such thing as slow season. Yes, exactly. Congratulations to you all. So that is so true though, right? Don't let any, when it comes to just to address that, like slow season, like that's, yeah, slow season. Whenever someone says it's slow, that's because that's for their perspective and that's what they're manifesting into their reality. Like you, like it could be slow for someone, but it could be like really, really busy season for someone else. Right? Like for Crystal and I, this entire month, literally every single day, every single day, I probably slept for like about 3 to 4 hours, if that, just because that's how busy it was because we're busy focused on being and creating momentum. And this is just for our lives, right? Your life can be different than ours. Obviously everyone's life is unique and different. Everyone's path is different, but that's the journey. And so for us, like we've been really busy with a lot of different things just because that's our ambition level, right? It also depends on your ambition level. But when it comes to, you know, like, like slow season, like it's exactly what Anj says, it's mindset and perspective. It's mindset and perspective. And if you in the past have been saying, you know what, like it's, it's been slow for me. You know, I can't create the momentum, right? Momentum is everything again for everyone. Momentum is everything. You can always, if it's slow for you, like the number one thing you should be doing is first and foremost focusing on creating momentum, right? And it only takes 30 days. It's a 30-day sprint, 30-day window. In 7 days, if you really think about it, like in 3 days, let's just say in 3 days, for 3 days, You know, being busy and all, being, uh, you know, tired, being exhausted, having all these different things on your schedule, so many different things that's life, life is happening to you. You can still like create momentum within 3 days, 72 hours by just doing something different, by switching it up, by being flexible, by taking massive action. Okay. It's called all out massive action. Really doing something different, stepping into the fear of the unknown, and then taking that massive action, like talking to people though, right? It's not, we're not going to war, like physically, right? We're, we're actually like engaging people, like through the cognitive, through social ability, like through the emotional side, through everything when it comes to just interacting and connecting. And that's the beauty of what we do, right? That's the beauty of Thrive is that the way that you earn business is just by talking to people, helping them feel good. Giving them a chance to feel good, giving them a chance to create a better life for them, giving it, giving them a chance to create a better future for themselves on the health side, on the wealth side, and everything in between, simply because Thrive is a part of your life, right? And so when it comes to all these different things, like, it's just like, ask yourself these questions, like, what, like, what is holding you back? What is slowing you down? What is slowing you down from moving the needle forward? Is there something that you've been like scared to do that you know you should be doing and you haven't done it yet? Is there something that is like, what is it? You know, ask yourself these hard questions. Um, if you have, if you're experiencing like slowdown, if you're experiencing pushback, if you're experiencing constraint, and let me ask you this question too again, right? Or ask yourself this question, like, is this constraint coming from you? Right? And I would expect everyone's answer to say yes. Okay? I would expect everyone's answer to be yes. The reason why I say that is because, again, as the leader, right, you are the leader of your own ship. So everything rises and falls in leadership. You are the leaders of your life. So if you're experiencing slowdown or experiencing momentum and growth, then that's on you. Right? It's not anyone else. It's only on you. When it comes to FIRE Hour, just for everyone who's brand new, FIRE Hour is dedicated to leadership development, becoming the best version of yourself. It's about you working on the best project you'll ever work on, which is you, which is your life. And when you work on yourself, what happens? This is what tends to happen, okay? People tend to notice shifts in you. People tend to notice that you're different, that you're changing, that you're evolving, that you're no longer the same memory that they once had of you. And that's a good thing because you're working on yourself. When you work on yourself, what else happens? Well, you start to attract a new audience. You start to attract a new crowd. You start to attract new friends. You start to attract new acquaintances. You start to attract new partners. You start to attract different levels of people, right? Different levels of ambition, different levels of support, different levels of impact. You are able to create that movement. You're able to create a deeper impact. Imagine if you were surrounded with the top leaders in the world and they're all in alignment with you. They want to do good in the world. They want to help inspire the masses, other people. They want to help, uh, provide benefits for anyone and everyone worldwide. Like, imagine if you were a part of that. Like, what would you do? How would that make you feel? How much, like, more effort would you put into your, like, what you do every single day, knowing that you're making a difference in other people's lives? What are the things that you would not necessarily miss out on, right? What are the— what, what's— what are all the things, like, what would you show up for, right? Who are you showing up for now? Imagine, like, I know that for parents, right, especially for, for parents that really, really, really, like, they really dedicate, like, their lives to their kids because, you know, that's, that's the opportunity of being a parent, right? Like, when you're a parent, like, you have the chance every single day and every single moment to decide if you want to, you know, spend that moment with your child or to do, like, spend that time with, like, doing something else, right? Putting your focus and energy and attention onto something else. So like for everyone who's a parent, right? Like who's really dedicated to creating something different for their children. And if you don't have children, then this is how to address, like to bring you into this, right? In the future, right? Whether you decide to have kids or not, like at least like what type of legacy are you leaving behind, right? What type of life are you creating for your future and for your present moment? And then also the, like, what, like, after you, like, what's coming after, right? What type of legacy are you building? What type of, like, history are you making? Like, for your name, maybe your family's name, maybe for your children, like a future, maybe for, like, the opportunities that you're going to create in your family tree, right? One of the biggest motivations for myself when I learned that I can do this, when I learned that I can create, like, I can create a different impact, a different change in my family tree financially was I want to do that. Like, I want to, I want to be the person in my family that breaks the chains of no longer being shackled to a job. That was just for me, right? I wanted time freedom. I wanted independence. I wanted to just be free from working like for someone who told me what to do, when to do it, with who to do it with, like how to do it, everything. Like I just wanted freedom. When I learned about direct sales, network marketing, and I learned that I could be my own boss and I can make my own time, I can work for my commissions, I could work for the sales, I could build my own team, I could do everything that we are doing today. Like in 2013, that's when I realized that, wow, there's much more to life on the financial side. And then when I started to learn from my mentor who's a multimillionaire and I got to see how he lived, like how he actually lived, every single day from 2015 to 2017. Um, and I got to see like all the experiences, like the lifestyle, like the mansions, the celebrities, the parties, like everything, right? Um, when I got to see that, like it really changed my perspective to see like what is possible in life too, because it's not just about money, right? Like if you have millions of dollars, that doesn't give you everything, okay? The thing that really, really unlocks a lot more for you is who you know, is your network, is who you know and who knows you. Because I'm going to share with you this, this is what I've learned from just experiencing all this for, for myself and also under my mentorship, is if even if you have all the money in the world, if you don't have the respect from your peers, if you don't have the respect from certain individuals, if you don't have the respect from certain networks, then the gate for you is basically blocked off. Okay. I'm just, I'm going off like a little bit on a tangent, but there's a point. And I really hope that you guys get some type of insight from this because I'm going to share with you like this, this is how it's going to be. Everything that I'm talking about right now, just to let you know, it's going to benefit your business. Okay. When you understand the unlocks of what I'm going to be speaking about right now. And then we're going to get it all straight back into marketing. But this is all about marketing because this is part of your personal brand. Okay. Let me, uh, if you guys can see this, I'm going to, I'll just draw this real quick. I've drawn, I've drawn this and explained this before, but this is the most important thing that you have to understand, especially for if you're building your personal brand, you're building on social media, you're networking, you're actively networking, connecting with other people, you're building relationships. Right? But you want to create momentum fast. You want to create momentum. It's not about, like, what you know, and it's not about what you do. The unlock and the, kind of, the shortcut is who you know and who knows you and who likes you, who trusts you, who admires you, who respects you enough to refer you business. Does that make sense? Or enough to, to get you your foot in the door. Are enough to open the door for you. Do you guys see what I'm saying? So when I was working with— when I was experiencing all these things, like these unlocks, these shortcuts, these doors opening, these experiences that other people don't have access to because of the lack of people knowing them or respecting them or admiring them or giving them the opportunity to just walk through the door, right? It's just simply because my mentor at the time, and still to this day, but at the time when I was experiencing it, he started to unlock a different level of social status. Okay. And again, we're talking about business. So like, forget about like, if you're, if your guard goes up when I say high status, or if your guard, your emotional guard, your psychological guard, if it goes up, it's blocking you from receiving the knowledge, the information I'm about to share. Like, you have to be aware with— of yourself. Like, pay attention to what's within yourself of what's happening. Because when, when it comes to working on yourself, sometimes you're gonna hear a belief. Sometimes you're gonna hear a belief that challenges your belief. And guess what? It's because that's, that's something that you probably picked up a long time ago, or that's something that someone said to you and shared with you that you, you firmly believed. You valued their opinion. You valued like their story and then you, you attach that story in that opinion to yourself. And when you're going after business, when you're going after, you know, making big changes in your life, whatever that may be, whatever goals it may be, it pertains to money, it pertains to freedom, it pertains to like your habits, it pertains to like anything and everything in your life. It's stories, it's beliefs. So when I, when I talk about something and it, This is for everyone to know because I haven't said this before, I guess. I, I can't remember if I said this or not, but it's a good refresher. If I share something, okay, if I share something, or if Crystal shares something, or if you see something in a book, or you hear something on a podcast, or you hear some— you see something on social media, whatever the case may be, from anyone and everyone, okay, we're all just messengers sharing with each other, connecting, helping each other learn and grow. If you see something or hear something that raises your shield, raises your guard. It's challen— that, that's a sign for yourself as a leader to understand that it's challenging a belief that you have within. Okay, so when I say high status, and if you have a shield that goes up, that means that you have a belief— it may be negative or positive or however you want to look at it— of the word, the word alone, high status, and what it means to you. Okay. But I'm here to share with you that when you are able to lower the guard and understand how you can apply high status to yourself and in your business and your, in your life, then you're now able to open the door and walk through it. Does that make sense? Okay. So when it comes, just, uh, that's the preframe. When it comes to having high status in the social environment, the social, in the circles, right out there in the li— in life. When you have high status and people respect you and admire you and, and they appreciate you and they do, they just, they just have an outlook on you of you're a role model, you're an influencer, you're someone that I respect and admire and I want to follow, you know, you, they may be a guide for you, etc. Those people, right, those people give you the doors, they give you the keys to the doors to unlock them, they open the doors for you to step in. They connect you with other people whom you may not have been able to connect with before. Okay. The reason why I met Crystal, one of the ways I met her was because I was out actively networking and I just so happened to meet what I call a super connector, someone that's way better than just an average networker, but they're a super connector. They know everyone and everyone knows them. And that's how I met Crystal. It's because through our partner Jeff. Like, he's a super connector. People thought that when I was actively building my network and going out there every single day and connecting with people, people, like, would call me the networking king. Like, social media named me the networking king. And so I just adopted that as part of my personal brand, right? When you have a personal brand, like, so, okay, just for everyone to know, damn, I'm going, like, all over the place today. So personal branding, okay? Just real quick, because this is, this all ties back into what I'm talking about with social status and high status networking and getting your foot in the door and unlocking these different, these unlocks, okay, these shortcuts. But with personal branding, for me, like Shangana. So Shangana is actually a personal brand. Shangana is a brand, right? The Networking King is just another brand under that, that, that name. So if you look at it, it's like this, it's like just real quick, this, cause this is, this is for you to know, this is about personal branding. And then we can go in depth, like on another call for personal branding specifically. But yeah, basically like this. So Shangana, I'm just going to put SG. So my real name is Michael Resurreccion. Okay. My real name is Michael Resurreccion for those of you who don't know. So under the name. Michael Resurreccion, you know, part of my life is I'm a b-boy. I break, like breakdancer, b-boy, okay? And one of my— one of the brand names that I had that was given to me is Shangana, okay? Oh my gosh, let me get another. Can you guys hear the squeaking? So Shangana—
hi, baby.
Shun, hey, what? You want to— hello, you want to go up here? Want to say hi? Say hi. Hi. Want to wave? Blow kisses? Okay, here, sit. All right, grand rising, little baby. Okay, so Shangana is a brand.
Hi!
Shangana is a brand that was given to me. It was a name that was given to me by my crew members. And when I was competing, uh, actively competing in the breaking scene, uh, you know, we would have b-boy names, we would have— and but this is where I learned marketing, okay? I first learned marketing in 2000— like, I learned it when I was a child, but because I was actively, uh, just, you know, observing the world and being aware. But when I started to break in 2015, um, that's when I started to realize that, like, you're— like, like, everything that you do and every— everything that you say and everything that you stand for and everything that, um, that you represent, it's marketing. It's a form of marketing. And so in 2015, when I started to learn how to break, I start— hey babe. I started to learn how to, to influence other people through movement. Does that make sense? So because in breaking, just to give you guys like a little background, when you're competing though, when you're actively competing—
sorry, David.
Sorry, baby. Okay, when you're actively competing in breaking, Leave her there. When you're actively competing in breaking, like there is, there's a judging system, there's a point system, okay? And you're judged based on your style, you're judged based on your movement, you're judged based on if you're, if you're executing your actions perfectly, you're judged on a lot of different things, on the angles of your movement, on like if you're like you're trash talking, like if you're being funny, like if your personality is coming out, like there's so many things. If you're on point with the music, if you're actually going with the flow, if you're not just running sets, like there's all these different things when it comes to competing. So for me, like in 2015, I'm learning this. I'm like, "Oh, okay, like this is how judging works. This is how like the battle system works. This is why I should be doing this type of movement during this time at this moment against this person." Like all these things, okay? But what I realized after I've been breaking for a long time, after a decade of breaking, and I started to learn marketing and business in 2013, that's when I was like, wait, when did I start breaking? I started breaking 2000— 2005. Okay, sorry, 2005. Okay, I started breaking 2005. I started to learn about like business 2013. So I had over— I had like almost a decade of experience in breaking at the time when I started business. So what I realized after like breaking for 8 years and then learning about business and then learning about marketing was, um, all the movements I was doing, all the reasons of why I was doing that, like the influencing, like the movement influencing other people, the movement influencing judges, I realized in marketing that that applies, like all that applies to marketing. So one of the things I learned as a b-boy was how a name impacts other people, how a name can impact a judge, how a name can impact and influence the room, the crowd. So when I was building my brand, Sean Gunna, right, the b-boy Sean Gunna, in the beginning of my breaking career, no one knew who I was, right? No one knew who I was. And so there was no respect. I had no respect. I was a newcomer. And the only thing that I had going for me was the results I was producing from movement, okay? The results I was, uh, the results I was gaining from my effort on working on myself, working on my craft as a b-boy. And so the only reason why I started to gain respect was because of 3 things. One, I was getting better in my activities, okay? I was getting better, and because I was getting better, people were starting to notice, okay? This is notes for you. Okay, as a, as a business owner, as an entrepreneur, as a leader, if you're not getting better, then people are going to notice, right? Most likely people will not notice that you didn't get better. But for those who are actively working on themselves, they will notice if you've improved or not. That's notes for you. Okay, because this is all about you getting to end goal, not, not like you now. This, I'm talking about your future version of yourself, the best version of you, the version that you're going after, that you're building towards. Okay? People in your peer group, people who you're building with, they will notice if you're getting better or not. I'm, I'm telling you that, that's, that's from my experience. Okay? So that's one thing. People started to notice that I was getting better. So I started to get more attention. My, my brand name started to improve, increase my influence and persuasion just by being me, started to increase, started to level up. Okay? So that's one. Number two, because I was getting better and people were noticing, word of mouth marketing. People started to talk about me. People were like, oh, have you met Shangana? Have you seen him battle? Is Shangana battling? Yo, Shangana's new moves, freaking crazy. Like, that's word of mouth marketing. In your business, in your product or service, who's talking about you and actively saying Yo, like, have you heard of Sung Gun's business? Like, have you bought it yet? Like, what's he doing? Like, what is that product? How can I learn more? Word of mouth marketing, right? Because I was working on this, again, leadership development, working on yourself, the best project you'll ever work on, right? This is marketing. I'm talking about marketing right now. Isn't that crazy? So work on yourself. People will notice. What's the name of the game in business? How much— and especially marketing— how can you get attention, right? How can you stand out in the crowd? Work on yourself. That's already one. You— who's— who benefits from that? You. Who else benefits? Everyone who does— who does business with you. Number 2, word-of-mouth marketing, right? So when you're getting better, people are noticing. Now people are starting to talk about you.
Right?
Number 3, this is where the high status— so I'm bringing it back full circle, that's where the high status unlocks, okay? High status unlocks is when people actually connect you with other people, right? Now they're like, they go out of their way, they go out of their way and they're like, yo, Shangana, like, I know you're part of this crew, or this was even before I was in a crew, But I need to connect you with this person because they want to meet you. I need to connect you with this person because they have a deal with you. I need you to connect with this person because they want to bring you on an exhibition battle. Okay? This is what's happening. Okay? So, and it's all because of networking.
Hey, babe.
It's all because of networking. It's because I was working on myself. People were starting to notice. So word of mouth was happening. And then connecting, the third thing, people were actually going out of the way to connect me with other people. They, they came to me, not me going to them. They came to me. That's the power of building your personal brand. Imagine if you had 100 people coming to you, knocking on your door, calling you up, giving you a text, or hitting you up in the DMs, anything. 100 people every day going to you. Imagine if it was just one person. One new person every single day trying to hit you up, right? They're trying to connect you with someone. They're trying to buy a product or service from you. They're trying to network with you. They're trying to do whatever, right? Imagine if just one person, one new person every single day was going to you instead of you going to them. How much easier would that make your life? How much would that help your business? Would it really be easier, right? Like, okay, let me ask, let me just to give you guys that contrast. Okay. When I first started building my business, I was reaching out to people. Okay. I was actually cold marketing. I was actually like talking, I was talking to like 100 people a day because in the position I was in, I was selling TV, internet, and phone services in Walmarts all around Las Vegas. So I'd go to like, I'd go to like north, south, east, and west, like Walmart stations. So I was always in a different Walmart every single day, 5 days a week. And part of my job, I mean, my job was to pitch people like cold market, everyone for TV, internet, and phone services. But because I was building, because I had an opportunity, I had a direct sales company that was attached. I had an income on the side that I was trying to build. Like I was trying to pitch that. So every single day, this is how I got good at cold marketing. Every single day, I would, I would go for the no as fast as humanly possible. And this is me, just to give you again, this is me, okay? This is me hitting people up. So this is me reaching out to people. Okay, so I'm doing all the hard work and I'm telling you this is the hard work. Okay? This is the hard way. I'm going to show you the easy way and I already shared it, but this is the hard work. This is me. Reaching out to people, okay? Reaching for the money, reaching for the money. All right? And so every single day, I'd go for the no as fast as humanly possible. Because that, when I got the no from someone else, when I got the no from they don't want to buy TV, internet, and phone services from me, then after that, I would say this. Okay, no worries. Super random, right? Super random. This after they said no to me. Super random. But are you at a point in your life right now where you want— you can— what was the question? Dang, I have it down. It's a cold marketing pitch that—
it affects your time.
Your time. Yeah. Your schedule. Are you at a point in your life right now where— oh my gosh.
It's like, if it doesn't affect your time and schedule, something—
yeah, that's at the very end. It's like, if it doesn't affect your time— Oh yeah, there you go. Okay, thank you. Okay, super random, but are you open? Are you at a— okay, yeah, I got it now. Thank you. Okay, super random, but are you at a point in your life right now where you're open to making extra income on the side of everything that you're doing if it doesn't affect your schedule? I said like, no, I said like, yeah, I said like a thousand times, but it's like a literally verbatim. I wrote it down somewhere. It's somewhere like in my notes, but I would, I would literally pitch this every single day to people. And I, I probably got like, I probably got like maybe like 3 yeses for every like 100 people. Like, I mean, everyone said yes, but then they were not serious after they said yes. Like they would say yes, they're open. And then when I try to schedule like a meeting with them, then they, they like just wouldn't go through. Okay. But that's part, that's cold marketing. Okay. That's part of business. That was, That's the hard way. That was me reaching out to people. Okay? I was actively pitching people. That's the hard way. Now here's the easy way. This is after you like, you build a brand. So you've been working on yourself. I butchered like my own thing, but yeah, you've been working on yourself. There is work, there's people talking about, you know, word of mouth marketing. And then there's now referrals. Number 3, people connecting you. Okay? People opening the door for you. People saying, yo, like, I got something for you, okay? This is the easy way. The money, because it's people, are now just going to you, okay? How easy is that? Instead of you going to the money, the money goes to you, okay? Instead of you going after the deals, the deals come to you. Instead of you working so hard and asking Now people are asking you, which one's easier? Which one's easier? You asking a bunch of people or a bunch of people asking you? This is called high status networking. Okay, this is, and this is part of high status branding. When you, when you've built a brand that has high status attached to it, you now unlock the shortcut, you now unlock the next door. You unlock the door that really makes everything easier for you because now business just comes to you. It's flowing to you. It's a deal flow. Okay. And this is in business. It's deal flow. You're able to unlock deal flow simply because of all the work that you've done. Okay. All the work that you've done in yourself. So when it comes to Fire Hour, like, this is why, like, I just want to give you the North Star for Fire Hour. Like, this is for you. To share with other people to bring them on board. Because where else are they working on themselves, right? Where else do they have, unless they're paying for coaching or they're part of a mastermind group that's focused on leadership development, where else can you get this for free? Where else can you get like all, like a group of and a community of leaders working on themselves, right? Angela says, So what I'm talking about right now, the high status networking, people going to her, right? People going to you instead of you going to them. Angela says, this happened to me. You're the hunted. Customers now reach out to me. She, they reach out to her. You guys see that? So this right here, it's so possible. It's so, it's so possible. And, and it's so much easier now because of social media. It's so much easier. So again, when it comes to fire hour, right? Like obviously like the, you know, part of fire hour is wealth and abundance and life transformation and, you know, developing skill sets that you may not have heard or that you've, you've been knowing but you're refining or it's everything. Okay. So literally like this right here, all these things I'm talking about fire hour, leadership development, right? Leadership development, self-mastery, becoming the best version of yourself. That's what Fire Hour is about. It's not just like, it's not just leadership development. It's not just mindset. It's not just personal development because I'm going to share with you this. Okay. Uh, in 2015. So Angela says, listen to Sean. He helped me scale big time. Thank you. Shout out to you. Thank you. Oh, I developed a belief system there. What is your belief system? Yes. These are all good questions to ask yourself, right? You developed your, your, okay, you developed your belief system here in Fire Hour. Mm. Who needs to be on Fire Hour, right? Who needs to be on, right? Ask yourself on your team or someone in your network, right? Because again, Fire Hour is a, it, we're, what Crystal and I are doing with Fire Hour is just providing a platform that is free, that is open to anyone and everyone, right? If they're not thriving yet, bring them on. If they're— if they have an open mind, they want to work on themselves, like, why not introduce Fire Hour to them? It's leadership development. We're talking about all different things in wealth, and, and we're going to be talking about, you know, financial stuff. We're going to be talking about business stuff, starting and scaling a business. We're going to be talking about networking. This is part of networking. This is part of, like, I'm talking about b-boying, breaking right here, right? Like, if you have a hobby, if you're a dancer, or if you— anything, it doesn't matter what hobby you have, like, the 3 things apply. Number 1 is working on yourself, right? Becoming the best version of yourself in whatever that hobby or passion is, right? In this case, I was talking about breaking. Number 2, like, the word of mouth. No matter what, whatever you do, if you start to scale your talent, people are going to start talking about you, okay? And that's a good thing. It's a good thing for yourself because people. That's how business comes in. Who here wants to like do what they love for, for a living? So like do what you love for a living, right? I've always wanted to make money from breaking, but when I was at the time, I just, I just wasn't good enough. That was it. That's the bottom line. I wasn't good enough to make money from what I was living. I was making some money, but not enough to live full-time, like in my passion. But what I can tell you is that it is possible now. Because of social media, because of brand deals, because of sponsorships, because of e-commerce, because of merchandise sales, because of all these different things, right, that you have at the, at your fingertips. Okay. So anyone can, can learn from Fire Hour. It doesn't just have to be Thrivers. Like, and guess what? Like, who, who needs Thrive, right? It's part of your health. It's premium nutrition. So if someone like tries it and it works out for them, then that's great for them. It's a good, it's a great benefit for them. You guys understand? So that's why it's, it's just, it's an, and not only that, like, like aside from Thrive, like what about just working on yourself? Like becoming the best version of yourself. Imagine if we had a bunch of people, just individuals equally committed to being the best version of themselves in life, in the world. Imagine if your neighbors were working on themselves every single day, right? And they were becoming the best version of themselves. And they're sharing that wealth with you, right? And vice versa. What kind of energy are you guys putting out there now? Does that make sense? So that's like the goal, you know? Like the goal is really to have a platform called, like, this is Fire Hour. It's a platform where we're focused on leadership development, helping you become the best version of yourself. It's not just Crystal and I, it's everyone here. It's the community. We all are working together to create and foster this collaboration where we're able to actually connect and really build together. So that's why it's important to bring people on. It's not just for yourself. It's not just for us. It's for everyone and it's for them. Okay. So yeah, there's a lot of benefits, right? Really, it's all energy, investing your energy. The most important thing isn't actually time. It is your energy. Yes. Exactly. Time is just the illusion. It's energy, right? If you have no energy, you have no time, right? If you have all the time in the world, I mean, you can have all the energy and then you allocate that to whatever you wanna do, but that's, that's the allocation of time. Does that make sense? So there's many perspectives on that too. But again, like if you're, if you're on here, it's because there's purpose. You have purpose, you have intentions, you're actively working on yourself, you're actively participating in your own journey's growth, right? So just to wrap this up, okay? So working on yourself for, for branding, become the best version of yourself. When you do that, people start to notice. That unlocks word of mouth marketing. And then number 3, when word of mouth marketing is now actively, right, the word of mouth is actively in play. Now, number 3, the door starts to open for you because people will start to go to you instead of you going to them. Connections, networking, your significant other. I met Crystal this way, right? We have a, you see Devin now, right? So like magic can happen. So, so literally like this right here, the easy way. Who here wants to have the easy way? Well, guess what? It's just branding. It's building your brand, building that reputation. Even if you're not on social media, this still works. It applies. It applied before social media. Right? What I like to say about social media is that it's just the amplifier. It's the amplifier to what you're already doing, like, aside from social media, right? Then that's the most important thing because it's who you are, like, offline. It's who you are offline that translates to online. And then from there, that's how you impact and accelerate, like, the ma— like, you— that's how you accelerate your impact to the masses. Does that make sense? Okay, so marketing again, like Shangana, just to wrap this one up, Shangana is a brand. Then now after I've been doing this, I've been networking, people are starting to talk about me, I'm building my influence. Then guess what? Then people are talking about like, oh, like Shangana, the networking king. Now people were saying this, like, yo, Shangana is the networking king. People were saying this all the time and then it caught on in my network, in my following, it caught on. So then I start to use the networking king as part of my branding. Okay, then I'm just going to put that. Okay, so I start to, to like have that as part of my associated branding to Shangana. Let me share with you like where this applies. Okay, let's talk about like Nike. All right. The company Nike. Hey guys, this, this is for you to apply. Okay. Like when it comes to this brand, right? Shanghanna. Shanghanna is kind of like the umbrella brand. It's like an entire umbrella. This is just how I look at it when it comes to marketing. Okay. Cause I, and I'll share with you like how this applies with the concept of Nike, for example. Okay. So this is what I look at. This is kind of how like I look at it. So Shanghanna., right? Let me actually make it like this. And this, so instead of saying Shanghanna, just like, like think about your brand, okay? This is, this is, I just want to make it like, I just want to give you a real life example. That's why. So what is attached to Shanghanna? Right? Well, we have Star Motor Works. Star Motor Works is attached to Shanghanna. What else is there? My crew, the Calambees, right? My b-boy crew is attached to Shanghanna. What else is there? The Love Tower is attached to Shangana, right? Okay, the Love Tower is attached to it. Resurreccion Media is attached to it. Okay, there, there's all these different attachments, but what else? Like, there's branding as well. So these are tangible companies, right? Organizations. And then from there, there's the associated branding, the networking king. Okay, the networking king. What, what, you know what's crazy about this? Like, what's crazy about this right here, the networking, just the name, the networking king alone. What does that do for other people? What does that tell other people? Right? Number one, like, why is he a king? Like, like, I mean, it's just, it's like a social media label, right? But why is he a king? What does that insinuate to other people? Right? It's the status. Okay? That's one. Number two, networking though. The word networking. Oh, maybe a lot of people, maybe he knows a lot of people. Maybe a lot of people know him. That's another thing. That's word of mouth, right? Word of mouth referrals. That unlocks it. Because now people, now marketing, people are playing different stories in their head now. Do you guys understand that? That's why when I say like, ask like, what's the story in your head? What's the story in people's head? This is part of word of mouth marketing. This is part of networking. Okay. And then from there, uh, when it comes to the status, when it comes to word of mouth marketing, when it comes to just connecting, okay, this is about the connection, about monetizing your connections. When you're networking, you're actively, you, you have the chance to monetize your connections, meaning you have the chance to make money or do deals with your network. With your connections. So this is all part of marketing right here. This is the branding. So right here, when it comes to this, just this brand is a byproduct of the Shangana brand. So the Networking King insinuates status, insinuates word-of-mouth marketing, a big network, insinuates, oh, maybe he has deals he can do, or you can do deals with him, right? Then people are like, well, who's the Networking King? Well, it's Shangana. And then who's Shangana? So it's all these things are compounding, they're creating momentum for you, right? In your life, for your personal brand, for yourself. What branding do you have? Like, what are you associated with? What do people associate you with? Who do they associate with you? Right? Who do they associate your brand with? All these different things when it comes to the Networking King. Like part of my branding back then was like, it's, I have VIP access. I have access everywhere. VIP. One time, this, just to wrap this one up, this story. One time I went to an event in Las Vegas. I went from Newport Beach to Las Vegas and it was an event. The tickets were like $500. VIP was, I think tickets were like $300 for general admission. VIP was $500. At the time, like, I was actively going out there networking. I had the branding, the Networking King, Shungunna the Networking King, working for me. Okay, it was out there in the world. I show up to this event and by random, I'm like, all right, I don't have a ticket, but I'm just going to show up and see what happens. There is someone who follows me on my social media and they know me as the Networking King and they know my branding because part of the branding for Networking King was VIP. I would always say VIP. VIP, VIP, VIP. That's part of my branding right there. Guess what? There was someone working at the front, the booth. So a 500-person event, someone working at the booth, and they're like, yo, Shun Gunner, the networking king, you're VIP, right? And I'm like, yeah. And so they gave me a VIP badge and they're like, and then I asked them, do I need to check in? They're like, no, you're good to go. You're Shun. You're going to go. And I'm like, okay, great. Can I get one for my friend? And they're like, yeah. And then they give me another VIP badge. So now I got 2 VIP badges completely for free, just simply because of my branding. Okay. This is how it applies into real life. Like when people know who you are and they associate your branding with certain things, such as in my case, it was, I was associated with VIP. That's what happens. People come to you instead of you going to them. People are asking you instead of you asking them. This was just one example of many. I have many examples. I have many stories of and experiences of what happened to me like this, the same exact thing. Okay? This is just one tangible example. Now I encourage everyone to buy their tickets. I encourage everyone to pay for your events. I encourage everyone to, you know, like actually like help out the event. Okay? But back then, this was just one, one thing I experienced from branding alone. And that's the point I'm making with this story. It's about the branding. Okay, now let me, let me just read the comments real quick. But yeah, let me, I'm going to share with you, like, with Nike, okay? Because that way, just to give you another story. Angela says, apply, you guys. A couple of weeks ago, they taught us about customer emails and data. Are you guys doing it? Organize and create a back office system for yourself. How you, how will you back up? How will you back up what you've built? Yes. You hear systems all the time. The most and best important system is the one you create with your daily method of operation. Yes, 100% agree. Get better and sharpen yourself and your business. On fire hour, I already made samples and documented all my customers and signed this month on Google Sheets. Nice. Yeah, working, actively working, applied knowledge is power. Effectively and intentionally, uh, work with your time. All right, use your time wisely. That's perfect. Thank you for sharing that. People pay attention to what you're doing and how you're living before they notice what you're selling. Yes, yes, yes. We are on our, we are, we are our brand. 100%. 100% agree. Literally, that's the truth, right? People don't know, like this, there's this quote, right? They say that, uh, people don't know how much you care until they, people don't know, people don't care about what you know until they know how much you care, right? And it's the same exact thing. It's like it, whenever you're selling something, offering something, like, do people actually feel like you really care about them? Because why are they buying from you? They could have bought from anyone, but why did they buy and do business with you? Right? What's the story in their head? Like, do, like, they might think that you actually care about them and that's a good thing. Like that, I really hope that you do, you know, I really hope that you care for your people, care for your clientele. Clap for the, the people that are doing business with you that are actively asking you, they're reaching out to you, they're putting their time, energy, and effort to talk to you, right? Be grateful for that. Don't, don't get caught up in the ego, like diminish that, be humble, remember your roots. And then from there, like when someone asks you for help and if you can help them, you're capable, then, then help them willingly, but also like with gratitude, right? So this right here. Okay, just to wrap it up, Nike real quick. So Nike, Nike is a big brand, right? Well, Nike in marketing, right? Who is associated with Nike? Just to name a few people, right? Who's associated with Nike? Michael Jordan. Who's associated with Nike? A list, a name of, a list of celebrities and influencers and people, right? This is part of branding right here. This is part of the marketing, right? When it comes to Michael Jordan, What did Michael Jordan do? He built a billion-dollar business, right? And guess what? He also, because he's associated with Nike, what does that do for Nike? It continues to increase their income as well. So this right here, like, like with Michael Jordan, right? He has Air Jordan. He has a shoe line, right? And then he has a bunch of other things. Like there's so many stories of marketing, like in history. There's so many stories in the past 30 years. 50 years, 100 years. There's so many stories that you can relate this to, but I just want to give you guys like my own experience and this is just one and then something else you can tie it to. Like the, here's the bridge. Okay. Bridge this all to yourself. Like this is not about me. It's not about Nike. It's not about like anyone else. It's about you. How do you tie this to yourself? What branding do you have? What's your story? What's the story that's out there about you? What's the story that you're creating? What's your story in your real life that you are creating? What's the story that you want to share with people, right? And just be authentic, be you. That's it. Just be you. Like for me, Shangana is just part of my identity. It's just part of who I am. Breaking, like literally, like one of the things I started to do again this year, right? And this is like what I want to end the call with, right? Because it's the, it's the last day. Right, it's the last day of the first month of the year. What is something that you haven't been— that you haven't done that you want to do? Do it. Why not do it? For me, I've been wanting to get back into breaking, so I did the research. I found a place where I can practice that, and I went. And I was scared to go because I'm just, you know, I'm an introvert. So, and so literally I'm literally, I just, uh, you know, I just went, right? I just went and I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it. You know, I just had a lot of fun. So literally it's the same thing, right? What's something that you haven't done that you want to do? What is something that you've been scared to do that you know you need to do and why are you not doing it? What is slowing you down? Right? What are the limiting beliefs that you have? What are the things that you're going to do in these next 30 days?, right? Starting today, because now guess what? Tomorrow is February, February 1st, right? So how are you guys going to apply marketing to what you do in life, right? How are you going to spin your marketing efforts now knowing this knowledge? How are you going to be intentional with working on yourself every single day? Because you already know the unlocks now, the 3 levels. Work on yourself to become the best version of yourself, people will start to notice. So they start to talk about you, word of mouth marketing. And then number 3, the number 3 is the unlock, is people start to connect with you. They start to reach out to you. They start to ask you questions, ask you for help, do business with you, bring you deals, right? This is just a 3-step process right there, right? Unlocking everything by doing what? Working on yourself, right? Working on yourself. That's it. And don't, and I'm going to share with you this, okay? Just to wrap it up. The 3 things, the 3 levels of working on yourself, right? That, I mean, there's 3 ways to work on yourself. The first one is by dabbling, okay? If you dabble, you're like, yeah, I wanna work on myself, I'm serious about it. And then the next day you're, you fell off. And then the next day you're back on and the next day you're off. And then like a couple days you go by and you're not working on yourself, you're dabbling, okay? You gotta make a decision if you're dabbling. If you, if you notice that pattern for yourself, you gotta make a decision to say, I am going to work on myself. I'm committed. And boom, you start to work on yourself. Number 2, the stressor, right? The stressor is the person that they already— they're doing it, they're doing it, they're working on themselves, but they're stressed out, right? They're like, I gotta work on myself, I gotta do this, gotta read these books, I gotta show up to this conference, I got blah blah blah. But you're stressed out. No, like, if you're doing the stressor part, then forget about it. Don't, don't worry about it. Don't Don't stress yourself out. Just have fun. That's the trick. Have fun. I know life is like— life is fair, okay? When people say life is not fair, it's a perspective mindset, okay? You're giving up your power. You're giving up your control when you say life is not fair, okay? Life is fair. Life is just, in my opinion. And when you admit that and you own that, now who's responsible? Now who has the power? Who has the control? You do. Okay, life is fair. Okay, life is what you make it. Life is in your control. Your life is in your control 100%. You are the leader of your own ship, of your life. Everything rises and falls on you, right? So if you're stressing out, right, working on yourself, you're stressing out, like, do your best to just slow down, slow down. Like take away all that, that negativity, take away all that, that pain, that suffering, take away all of that stuff, that stress, and remove it and reframe yourself, reframe your mindset. Okay. Number 3, the per— the last one is the master, right? Like the one that knows that, okay, like I'm, I'm going with the flow. Like I, I already know where I'm going. I already know the best version of myself. I'm already connecting with that. I'm already working towards that. I'm already building that. I know what it looks like. This is part of why you should vision out, like write out what you want, like what traits you want, what values you want to enlist, like all these things, what people you want to be surrounded by because of you, right? Because of your influence, because of your way of how you are a role model, because of the way that you are influencing and showing up in life, right? That's like the master. It's like you already know where you're going. So that we— you don't get lost off your path. People are not pulling you into their plans, right? That right there, like, is everything for yourself. There's 3 ways. There's many ways too, but I just want to give it like really concise, you know. Don't be the dabbler. If you find yourself dabbling, make a decision. If you're stressed out, stop stressing out, have more fun. And number 3, like, envision your life. Envision who you want to be, what you're working towards, who you're becoming in the process, and flow with it. Like, flow with that life, flow with it. Just have fun with it, okay? So marketing, wrapped it up. The next call, next episode, we'll talk about content campaigns and a few other things. And just to give you all like just a call to action, okay? Call to action for marketing is SWOT analysis, okay? So SWOT, S-W-O-T, okay? SWOT, and if you haven't done your SWOT analysis for yourself, for your own marketing, your own branding, for your own, like, lifestyle, then you should do it, okay? SWOT is strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, okay? If you don't know what it is, look it up, just Google it or use ChatGPT and do this for your branding, do this for your marketing. Okay? Do this for your marketing strategies. Do this for your content campaigns and see what you can come up with.
