A short YouTube pro-tip by Brent Kelly of the Sitkins Group advising insurance agency leaders and professionals to prioritize encouragement to improve agency culture. Kelly contrasts common criticism-heavy environments with the energizing effect of positive reinforcement (quoting “encouragement is like oxygen for the soul”), offers role-targeted prompts (leaders, producers, service teams, carriers), and issues a challenge to actively encourage others as a regular practice.

Hi, Brent Kelly here of the Sitkins Group with my profit tip, Professional Fitness. To help your agency gain clarity, to build consistency and make a commitment to become your best version possible. You can see on my chalkboard today, I want to share with you my pro fit tip about breathing life into your insurance agency. I can tell you that when I talk to agency leaders and when I look at insurance agencies, for the most part, the culture is pretty average at best. There's a lot of reasons that a culture can be good or bad or somewhere in the middle. But I think one of the things that's often missing from insurance agencies, and quite honestly this is true in industries across the country of any kind, is the fact that we spend a lot of time criticizing, but not very much time encouraging. There's a quote I recently heard listening to a podcast that said encouragement is like oxygen for the soul. I believe that encouragement for your insurance agency does the same thing. It provides life, it provides energy for, for your agency. You know, listen, as a father of five children, I spend a lot of time telling my kids not to do this and to stop doing that. That's part of leadership. That's part of anything, is we've got to have non optional behaviors and you've got to be able to teach and coach around what not to do. But equally important, in fact, I would say more importantly is that we must spend time encouraging those around us saying thank you, saying I appreciate you. Saying I applaud your effort today because I can tell you that little encouragement could mean more than you can possibly imagine. If you're a producer, are you encouraging your service team? If you're an agency leader, are you encouraging your entire team? If you're anyone is an insurance professional, are you saying things to encourage people in your community, are you saying things to encourage your insurance carriers? There are multiple opportunities, but my challenge for you today and tomorrow and beyond is to take some time to be an encourager. Breathe life, breathe energy into the people around you and you'll be amazed at what happens. Wish you all the best in your success.
