How are you limiting your opportunities?

Brent Kelly uses a fisherman with a 9-inch frying pan to show how self-imposed limits keep you from landing bigger opportunities. He asks where you're throwing back the big ones because your mental or operational capacity is too small, and urges you to expand it.

Hi, Brent Kelly here, the Sitkins Group with my Pro Fit tip, Professional Fitness to help your agency gain greater clarity, to build consistency and make a commitment to become your best version possible. I'm standing today in front of a whiteboard. Not my typical chalkboard. I moved to a brand new office. I will be most likely getting a new chalkboard. So if you like the chalkboard, let me know. Leave a comment and I'll make sure that I install a chalkboard moving forward. But more importantly, my question on the board today is how big is your frying pan? And there is a story behind this. And I want you to think as an agency insurance professional of how big is your capacity? And here's the story that I want to share with you today. There were two fishermen out in a boat fishing together. And the one fisherman noticed that the other fisherman, every time he caught a fish, he would throw back the big ones and keep the smaller ones. And he couldn't figure out why, what are you doing? Why are you keeping the small ones and throwing back the big ones? And he finally asked the other fisherman the question, why are you doing this? And he said, well, it's because of this. And he held up a frying pan. He only had a 9 inch frying pan. And the moral of the story is pretty simple. What areas in your life as an agency professional, as an insurance leader, are you limiting yourself by having too small of a frying pan? Meaning that maybe you're thinking, well, our agency could never achieve this level. We could never have this type of culture. We could never work with clients that we identify as future ideal clients versus suspects and prospects. We could never build our clientele with higher level, higher revenue accounts, whatever it may be. It could be a number of things, but we limit ourselves not by the capacity of what we could do, by the capacity of what's in our brain that we think that what we've always done is what we always have to do. Now, it doesn't mean that bigger is always better. Don't get me wrong, it's about being efficient and doing things that you want and love to do. But I often see insurance professionals, insurance producers, agency leaders that can't get beyond their current level of thinking. They can't get beyond their current level of capacity because they're stuck with a 9 inch frying pan and they're throwing back all the big opportunities that are in front of them. So I want you to think about this question. What type of frying pan do you have and what areas do you need to increase your frying pan and ultimately increase your capacity. Hope this was helpful to you. Something to think about before we head into another weekend on today's profit tip. All the best in your success.
