What producer success looks like

Brett Kelly of the Sitkins Group presents a short YouTube profit-tip about what success looks like for agency leaders and producers. Using an infographic metaphor and stock-market analogy, he argues success is non-linear (ups, downs, sideways) and instead depends on three core elements: clarity (clear direction/purpose), consistency (regular effort despite setbacks), and commitment (accountability and coaching). He challenges listeners to define what success means to them and to adopt the three C's.

Hi, Brett Kelly here, the Sitkins Group, with my profit tip, Professional Fitness to help you and your agency become its best version possible. I've had some really great discussions over the past few weeks with agency leaders of our private client group, as well as producers who are taking part of our new virtual Producer FIT program. You know, one of the things that often gets discussed, whether directly or indirectly, is success. And what does success look like? What does success look really mean? And so I want to share that today on my profit tip, because I saw an infographic and this has been many years ago when I first saw this, at the time, I chuckled and laughed about it. But I think in Today's world, with COVID 19, with some of the economic downturn uncertainty that we face, this is more true than ever. You know, oftentimes we think, hey, I've got a new idea, I've got a new process, I've got a new system. We're having a new agency team meeting, a culture meeting, and we're going to start from right here and. And we're going to start this process, system, whatever it may be, and we're going to begin to just accelerate right to the top of the mountain. But the truth of it is, this is much more accurate. That's what success really looks like. It's back and forth and up and down and left and right and good days, bad days, good weeks, bad weeks. But what I want to share today, it really comes down to the three C's. If you want to understand success, and I've talked about this before in different matters, it really comes down to three areas. Number one, clarity. Because although on that infographic, you're going left or right and backwards and circling, we're always eventually going to the top. Because just like if you look at the stock market, right, it's up and down, up and down. But over the course of time, we know where we want to go, right? You know where you want to go. That's what elite performers do. When it comes to success. We know that it may not be as smooth as we think it's going to be, because it won't be. There's going to be setbacks and frustrations and failures, but we're still clear on that direction, that purpose behind it. And secondly is consistency. This is when really, I think what separates pretenders from the performers is consistency. Some days you're not going to feel like doing some of the things. Some days you're going to be working on things. You go, is this really even worth my time? And Most people start to go to the shiny object syndrome, well, I'll go try this now, I'll go try this. Maybe this will work, or maybe this will work. Whereas if you just stay consistent even through some of the bad times, short term, because you're thinking long term, you're going to be fine, you're going to be successful. And lastly is a commitment. And these all go together, certainly clarity, consistency, commitment. But commitment to me is about one word, accountability. If you don't have accountability partners, if you don't have an accountability person, a team, whatever it may be that you can share your success, but your failures with as well, you're not going to be successful. Because left to our own accord, as much as the highest level of self discipline, the greatest athletes, the greatest musicians, they have coaches and people around them and peers to hold them accountable to keep their commitments. So my challenge to you is, when you think about success, what does it mean and look like to you? Understand back to this infographic, that it's not going to be a straight line, it's not linear, you're going to go sideways and downwards and ups and downs. But if you have clarity, consistency, consistency and commitment, you will ultimately be the success that you're looking to be. I wish you all the best in your success.
