Anna Brandt, a recruiter with 13+ years (including leadership roles at Uber, Solando, N26, Molly), discusses recruiting during hypergrowth. She defines hypergrowth as rapid scaling that constantly breaks processes and forces frequent changes to ways of working. Key tensions: recruiting time vs production time for founders/leaders, overwhelmed new recruiters, and the career-accelerating but exhausting nature of hypergrowth. The talk aims to explain what it takes to succeed in hypergrowth and how to enable effective hiring at massive scale.

Foreign I'm Anna Brandt and I've been in recruitment for over 13 years. Half of that time in global leadership roles with fast growing tech organizations like Uber, Solando, N26 and Molly. And I've personally experienced hyper growth multiple times with all these organizations. So what you see is that these days more organizations go to rapid growth or hyper growth. At the same time, I think employment rates are at an ultimate low. What means that a lot of young recruiters are placed in these organizations to help founders drive this growth, which is quite complex if you have never done this before. Hypergrowth is all consuming. So I think the biggest challenge is that the time you spend on recruitment activities you cannot spend on production. I think this is one of the biggest challenges for founders and leaders in the organization because it's a hard decision to make. At the same time, I think with hyper growth everything breaks constantly. So within the wave of the next hundred people, all the decision making processes, all the ways of working will change and need to be adjusted so there's not a constant pause at any day. I think hyper growth is a very exciting experience. It can really elevate your career. As a recruiter, you are likely to learn way more in two years than you do 10 years in another corporate role. At the same time, it will be probably most overwhelming experience that you will have. So I think I will really shine some light in what does it take to be successful at hypergrowth as well as how do you enable the organization to make the right hiring decisions in a time where there's massive scale needed?
