The US Department of Defense has the biggest SBIR budgets out of all the other federal agencies. If you are developing a technology or innovation that can benefit the military or DOD in some way, then pursuing an SBIR or an STTR grant from the DOD would be an excellent way to secure non-dilutive grant funds. In the course of a typical fiscal year, there are 3 pre-scheduled SBIR and STTR opportunities for the Department of Defense. There are 3 really important dates that you want to keep in mind. First is the pre-release date, which is the date when the solicitation, or otherwise known as instructions are available. The second is the open date. This is the first day that you can actually submit your SBIR application in the DSIP. And finally is the closing date, and this is the last day you can actually submit your SBIR application in the DSIP portal. So this is the deadline you do not want to miss. For 2023, the pre-release dates for the 3 BAA cycles are January 11th, April 19th, and August 23rd.
