Greatest deep-tech funding HACK || SBIR GRANTS

Stacy L. Chin argues SBIR grants are the most powerful funding source for deep-tech founders, offering non-dilutive capital without equity loss or board oversight. The 2026 upgrade introduced Strategic Breakthrough Awards up to $30 million per project. A recent freeze stalled $4 billion, but the program has restarted.

I seriously think that the SBIR program should be the biggest funding cheat code for deep tech founders in the US. Hear me out. If you guys are building something in deep tech, biotech, hardware, materials, or anything R&D related, you know how brutal the fundraising game is. VCs want traction that you can't have yet because you're still in the lab. Angels don't write checks big enough to build prototypes that cost 6 figures, if not And the dilution starts eating away at your cap table before you can prove the science even works. But guess what? I think the SBIR program can flip that problem upside down. So if you're new to this channel, welcome. I'm Stacy Chin, a professional federal grants and contracting consultant who's helped to raise over $50 million of non-dilutive funding for startups developing innovations in biotech, climate, and defense. If you've never heard of the SBIR program, it stands for Small Business Innovation Research, and this is a US-backed federal program that can give you actual grants and contracts to de-risk your innovation. And this is not a scam or some obscure grant, and I'm shocked having deep tech founders have no idea this program actually exists for them. And the beauty of this program is that no equity is given up. Yep, that's right, that's completely non-dilutive. There's no investor calls or board meetings, and it's just non-dilutive funding given by the federal government for you to pursue R&D, like to run feasibility studies, develop prototypes, and test it against the golden standard in your space. In other words, the US federal government is giving you funding to generate the data you need to prove that there's commercial viability in your technology. And in 2026, they actually massively upgraded this program. Now there's something called the Strategic Breakthrough Award, work that can go up to even $30 million of non-dilutive funding, which is wild. And yes, this program went dark for about 4 to 6 months earlier this year, which is the longest lapse I've ever seen. Pretty much over $4 billion of funding just immediately froze for startups. But now the program's on again and coming back stronger than ever before. So if you're a deep tech founder in the US, either deciding whether we should bootstrap the company or to give a bunch of equity away to a VC, I want you to consider a different option. Go find an SBIR program that's a good fit for you. Apply, get funded, keep your equity, and build your startup. If you're interested in learning more how to secure non-dilutive funding or to secure SBIR grant funding, make sure to follow this along and also reshare this channel with another founder so you can learn new ways to keep your equity throughout your fundraising journey.
