Fifth graders at Philippe Shores Elementary pack 50 backpacks of food weekly for the Warren Backpack Program. MyGreenBuildings owners Steve and Catherine Ellis matched the program's $5,000 contribution after seeing a film on childhood hunger, funding weekend meals for 50 students all year.
5th graders at Philippe Shores were tackling hunger today. Students were helping other students through the Warren Backpack Program with the help of My Green Buildings. They packed their first round of 50 backpacks with non-perishable food. The same thing will happen every week for the rest of the year. My Green Buildings owner Steve Ellis and his wife Catherine were moved to match the Warren Program's $5,000 contribution after seeing a video during the Sarasota Film Festival about local childhood hunger.
One child said, "Hey, you know, I've been here before and it really means a lot to me to contribute and to participate in this process." Another kid said to me, "It's really important for me that kids and families get to eat." I mean, you know, so the kids get it.
The total contribution feeds 50 students on weekends for an entire year.
