¡Hola, hola! Vamos a empezar un live en inglés. Aquí está mi esposo, saluda.
¡Hola, hola, hola!
¿Qué tal? Este live va a ser en inglés porque es con Les Brown, el gran Les Brown, pero sí les recuerdo que en el evento Pasos de Gigante Les va a tener traducción simultánea para los que no hablan inglés. Les, ¿qué quieres? Hello, how are you, my friend?
I'm great, I'm glad to see you. Good to see you. How are you doing?
I am so— Alejandro and I are so excited. What a privilege to have you here with our communities.
Oh, thank you, Alejandro. I'm so glad to see you. Yes, yes, yes.
Yes. I was just telling everybody your story, a little bit of your story, when you were born and when you had the incident with your mama and clapping in the different rooms. And can you tell us what happened after that day in the bus when you were riding back home with your mom?
I saw people on Miami Beach just enjoying themselves, and they're— now mind you, I'm 78.
Yeah.
So during this time, they had signs on Miami Beach, and the signs read that Jews, dogs, and coloreds not allowed. There literally were places on Miami Beach at that time that a dog can go that I could not go. If I did go in that area, I would be arrested. Okay, um, during this time, if you were a person of color and you passed a white person on the highway, you would be arrested. If they drive 15 miles an hour, you got to drive 14 miles an hour. Now mind you, this is a culture that we're in that's designed to this day that if you're not a part of the dominant culture, which now things have changed and this is why they are panicking, then that, that, that you have to be hungry in order to get through. You have to be determined, unstoppable, and relentless in order to make things happen for yourself and for your family. And so I selected speaking because being adopted, one of 7 children, I was a foster child. We were born in an abandoned building on a floor in Liberty City with my twin brother. And I just at 77 saw a picture of my birth mother and father at 77.
Wow.
People watching, they can go on YouTube and put in the Les Brown 2021 surprise. But when I was in Miami at Douglas Elementary School in Overtown, I was labeled educable mentally retarded and put back from the 5th grade to the 4th grade. And I used to always go to work with my mother. She cleaned homes on Miami Beach for wealthy families. And as you mentioned, I was there when this lady asked her to clap her hands. This is what she did, that when people clean her home, she said she made them clap their hands to make sure that they weren't stealing. And when she told me that, I said, listen, my mother does not steal. Now, during this time, Black people were not allowed to look white people in the eyes. Now, this culture, you know, they have no shame. And still, when you look at what Ron DeSantis is doing, it's just unbelievable. And I told my mother, I said, mama, when I become a man, I said, when I turn 18, you'll never pay another bill. My mother taught me that a man takes care of his family. And so I just really wanted to do whatever I possibly could to make life easier for her. And I promised her that I would buy her a home. And so I've done a variety of things. I used to be a sanitation worker for the Miami Sanitation Department in Miami. But when the young ladies ask you, Alejandro, I would say, I'm a sanitary technician. I had game, you know.
Give me game, brother.
Up in here, up in here.
Yeah.
But I had this high school teacher who challenged me one day. He said, young man, I want you to go to the board and work this problem out for me. And I said, sir, I'm not one of your students. He said, I want you to do it anyhow. And I said, I can't, sir. And the other students started laughing, saying, he's Leslie. He's got a twin brother, Wesley. Wesley's smart, but he's DT. And he asked, what's DT? He's the dumb twin. And I said, I am. "Sir." And he came from behind his desk, Margarita, and he said, "Don't ever say that again. Someone's opinion of you does not have to become your reality. Do you hear me?" And I said, "Yes, sir." And he, on that day, he became my mentor. I adopted him as my spiritual father. He did not know that. And he taught me 3 things that's very important. He said, "You don't get in life what you want. You get in life what you are." And the workshop that we're going to be doing next week, we're going to share with people how to begin to step out of the programming that's been indoctrinated in us in the curriculums in school. They don't educate minorities. What they do is indoctrinate you to be subservient. And, and so we're going to share people techniques and strategies on how to get into your greatness. The second thing he taught me was practice, and what you're doing, building a community of greatness. He said, practice OQP, only quality people. If you want to be successful, you've got to look at your relationships and ask the question, what are these relationships doing to me? You earn within $2,000 to $3,000 of your closest friends. And Sidney Poitier, the Academy Award winner who passed last year, He said, when you go for a walk with someone, something happens without being spoken. He said, either you adjust to their pace or they adjust to your pace. Whose pace have you adjusted to? And the other thing that he said that is major now, more so than ever before, he said, develop your communication skills, because once you open your mouth you tell the world who you are. So people who are watching now, if they go to on YouTube and put in Les Brown speaking in the Georgia Dome, they'll see me speaking to over 80,000 people. And the guy who hired me named Dexter Yeager, this guy hated my guts. He could have hired Tony Robbins and, and Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and Robert Schuller. But he said he hired me because he heard a cassette tape— this is how long ago it was— me telling the story how I became a disc jockey. And he said, I want you to tell that story about being hungry. And Margarita and Alejandro, as you know, we're living in a time that's very disruptive, that people need to learn how to tell their story. They're people who are intimidated because of how the economy has been turned upside down. They're intimidated by technology that's eliminating millions of jobs. They're intimidated because of what's happening with the virus and people going through foreclosures, and at a time where the suicide rate is going up. We don't feel safe sending our children to school, and violence taking place in all kind of unexpected places. Not feeling safe in church. And so now people are looking for ways. What do I do? How do I make it now? And Steve Jobs of Apple, he said the storyteller is the most powerful person in the world. Because if you can present yourself, if you can sell yourself, your products, your idea, if you can promote your business or your multi-level marketing business, your real estate business, finance, whatever area you're in, you are the storyteller of that. And so we're going to teach people not just how to tell a story, but how to transform people individually and collectively. This is a new day. Things are changing dramatically. And, and if you think about this place where we are, just think about in a very short time, the Latinos, you go, you You gonna be dominating the whole place up in here, up in here. That's why they're panicking. I say, don't hate, celebrate and become bilingual. That's what I'm doing. I'm listening to Spanish tapes while I sleep. They say you can't teach old dogs new tricks. Well, I said, well, I'm not an old dog, but I can bark.
Woof, woof, woof. I'm very moved with all the messages that we're getting here, people. I mean, of course we know people love you, but just reading all these messages gets me very emotional and excited. And if some people are wondering, Les is going to be speaking on May 7th here in Miami. He's going to teach us how to communicate. If you want the information on that event, you can attend live or online. You just type the word Les and the bots from Instagram is going to send you the information. Okay, so just type the word Les and you'll get the information. Y para los que están en español, cuando Les esté en el evento va a haber traducción simultánea. I was just telling the people that some people are saying, I don't understand, I don't speak English. So we're going to have simultaneous translation for your, um, your presentation here in Miami. So it's going to be awesome. We're going to have Latino and bilingual people and people that only speak English, and we're going to have a lot of fun. So, Les, what if somebody says, yeah, you tell me to be hungry, but I don't— I'm not hungry. I don't feel motivated. I don't know how to, you know, I barely want to get out of bed. What would you tell somebody that's feeling like that?
People who are not hungry and determined to live their dreams have very small waistlines because In order to make it against all odds, when the system is stacked against you, you gotta be hungry, you've gotta be relentless, you've got to be unstoppable. The only reason that you and Alejandro are here, and the community that you have built, helping people to get out of their history and to step into their imagination, and to have a larger vision of themselves, to live their dreams. When you look at what's going on right now, people that are determined, people that have a sense of perseverance, people who are going to make it tonight— today. And I want everybody to listening to write this down: make a decision to live a life that will outlive you. Listen to me, make a decision. And this is what you've done, Margarita. This is what you've done, Alejandro. Make a decision to live a life that will outlive you. The people that you train, these events that you've done, you— these people that you've impacted, they're going to impact other people, and they're going to impact other people. And that work, that's the greater work. Greater is he that's in you than he that's in the world. That work will not be undone. The other thing that's very important right now, and I want to say to everybody, and you're listening and looking at someone who is a fourth stage prostate cancer conqueror and received the award from Cancer Centers of America. I'm here because of God's grace and mercy. And trust me, it's better to be seen than to be viewed.
Many years with cancer, you got like a perseverance award, right?
Yeah, perseverance. Yeah, well, yeah, fourth stage, 39 years. And, and so that you want to live your life the way you want to live your life. There's no such thing as job security. I was talking to a friend of mine the other day. Been on job for 42 years. And when he came to work, the security guard came to his desk. And he had a box. He said, you know, this is it. And he had to put his belongings in the box. And he had to give up his keys. And they escorted him out. He was devastated. I said, listen to me. Marion White said, "In life, when you don't have enough courage to know that you have outgrown a situation and it's time to move on, life will move on you." All the stuff, Margarita and Alejandro, that's going on right now, God is still in the midst. He's in the mix on all this stuff right now. And what we have to do is give God something to work with. You got to commit yourself to learn. It was something that Peter Drucker said. He said, "We're in a space where you must be willing to unlearn because the things that served us and made things possible for us yesterday won't serve us today." That's why the conferences you do, very important, that we have to elevate our thinking and our knowledge and our skill set. He said, "We must be willing to unlearn." learn and relearn because things are constantly changing. Nothing stays the same. Everything must change. That's called life. And things are going to be happening to us, and things are going to happen to the people that we care about. And so when you're in a community of people that help you to begin to fortify your faith, and this is what you do, the classes, the speakers that you have that are there. They're going to learn a lot about how to begin to anchor themselves to have peace, to have harmony and joy in the midst of the storms of life. And they're going to learn how to develop collaborative achievement-driven supportive relationships. And I'm going to share with them how to tell their story and how to monetize their story. No one would have ever thought being born in Liberty City a foster kid labeled educable mentally retarded. And when I speak internationally, I earn just over $225,000. A lot of people work for a whole year and don't earn that.
Or me, huh? Or several years.
Or several years. But for me to, to be able to do that in one hour. And so what we're doing There's something I believe that Bishop T.D. Jakes said. There's no success without successors. Alejandro is my spiritual son, and you're my spiritual daughter. And I'm going to teach you how to be a dominant voice on the planet so that when you speak and you train others, when you speak, you're going to teach people how to build a legacy. When you speak, you're going to teach people how to monetize their dreams. When you speak, we're gonna teach people how to be compelling when they do webinars and when they get on this computer, because we have gone from brick and mortar to click and order. And as a result of elevating their communication skills, come on somebody, well, oh behave, we're gonna be able to have fun, enjoy each other, and build a legacy for our children. This is your time, those that you are watching. This is a God moment. You were born and preserved for such a time as this. Don't come for me. I didn't call an Uber. Yes, yes, yes.
Yes, we're speaking about learning and unlearning. Would you say that was a key element for you? I mean, you have broken so many limiting beliefs and so probably more stuff than any of us or the combination of all of us together. Together, right? So would you say that learning was a key factor investing in your—
Yes, continuous learning. You must be a lifelong learner. Bob Proctor said the primary cause of people's suffering is because of ignorance, that they're not willing to learn new strategies, new techniques in this new space where we are. Einstein said And it's true, the thinking that has brought me this far has created some problems that this thinking can't solve. And what's so exciting about what you've been doing for people, that you're bringing people in who want to learn. The road to life is straight and narrow, and few there be that find it, because few there be that are willing to invest in themselves. Few there be that are willing to put in the time and the effort to elevate their skills, to, to grow their businesses, to develop new relationships with people that are going in the direction of where they are going. You and Alejandro, you're doing the greater work. And, and so as we look at ourselves at this point in time, there are many people, millions literally, that are focused looking at, oh, there's a recession coming, or They're focused on the things that have happened to them. But what you're saying to people, hey, look at where you're going. Whatever you're looking at now that's stressing you out, that doesn't serve you. Look at where you're going. Don't look back because you're not going in that direction. Elevate yourself. Invest in yourself. Set aside time to work on yourself. You're made in the likeness and image of God. It doesn't get any better than that. You've been given authority and dominion over everything. This is nothing. When you think about people who risk their lives to come here, to risk their lives to seek a better way of life. And so when you're doing that, you're going to have people who say no. But what we say is, it's not over until I win. Woo!
That's clarity. That's clarity too. And again, everybody, Leslie's going to be speaking here on May 7th here in Miami. His hometown. So if you write the name, type the name Les on the comments and you'll get all the information. Si hablas español, va a haber traducción simultánea en el evento. Les nos va a enseñar a comunicar por 2 horas. Escribe la palabra gigante si estás en español. And if you're an English-speaking person, just type the word Les. Do you have any questions for Les?
No, I just want to say, if you guys feel the energy, the excitement just to hear Les Imagine what would it be to be in front of him, a few feet from him.
Oh, I have a story about that. So Alejandro was being mentored by Les, and I don't know if you remember, Les, and I came from a trip and I just sat down like for the last 10 minutes and I was like going crazy taking notes. I mean, I've always known you're a genius. I've always admired you, but to have you like face to face and learn from you, what a privilege. Thank you. For everything you do and for the passion that you put in it.
Thank you. And, and we're going to teach people the new strategies on how to begin to monetize their dream. It's easier now to earn their first million than ever before. It took me 3 years to earn my first million as a motivational speaker. And so teaching them how to tell their story and the strategies on how to use technology technology to accelerate and grow their audience and do market takeaways and how to master the art of presenting themselves. They're going to learn that. All of this is going to be a power-packed event that will change their lives, change their income, and teach them how to live a life that will outlive them. I ain't playing with you. We coming for you. Yes, we are.
Woo! You're probably the happiest person I know, and I love that you're always laughing. Even when you had cancer, all the time you're always laughing. If you could give us advice on how do you know, live the present moment as well, and even though like you said, the media is telling us like an apocalypse, you know, and everything, but there's still a lot of people making money and creating the lives of their dreams because they're not paying attention to that. What would you tell everybody that people that are, like, stressed out right now?
Don't listen to the politician and religious leaders. They keep us at each other's throats. Turn the media off. Don't look at it, because if it leads, it bleeds. What you've got to do is put your mind in a bubble. Keep thine eyes single. Feed your mind positive things. Deal with the things that you have control of. And the things that you can't do anything about, don't even look at it because you get sucked in. My mother, she adopted and raised 7 children as a single mother. And she had a sign on her mirror. And, you know, life is lived going forward, but we learn from it looking back. And I was always curious about this sign she had on her mirror. And the sign read, "Oh Lord." help me keep my nose out of other people's business. Just think about that. And I remember that I was at Cancer Centers of America, and they said, Mr. Brown, your white blood cells are lower than we've seen since you've been coming here for treatment. And I remember reading something that said, who's the matter with me? And I took the time to look at and just got quiet and still. What's going on? And what I realized, I had a lot of things that I was doing and focusing on, and where focus goes, energy flows. And I was depleting my healing energy and compromising my immune system. There's an area of medicine called psychoneuroimmunology. Psycho, the mind. Neuro, your nervous system, immu, the, the, your immune system. And, and what I realized, I had to start taking on stuff that wasn't my stuff. I, I sent all my kids an email, my grown children an email. I'm no longer Mr. ATM. They rejected my resignation.
We all know. I said, figure it out, figure it out.
There's, there's a quote that I love by Yon LaVon Sun: give to yourself until your cup runneth over, and then give to others from the overflow. And many of us are stressed out because we're taking other people's stuff on. This is the time you got to focus on you. This is the time that you have to look at what is it I need to do, what radical change must I make in myself so that I can create the next greatest version of myself. And when they come to this conference, I ain't playing with you. We will take no prisoners and eat the wounded. Nom nom nom nom nom.
You know, it's like they say on airplanes, put your mask on first. You know, you cannot help anybody if you can't breathe, if you're choking or trying to grasp some air.
See, Les, some of the people are saying, oh, I wish I had my son here listening to him. What would you tell What would you tell your son if you had him in front of you?
Teenagers, for teenagers.
Yes, it's very important for us, first of all, to help them because they're very vulnerable now. And because young people are 40% of our population, but they're 100% of our future. And it's very important for us to help them to cultivate a sense of who they are. Something Mark Twain said, he said the two most important days in our lives The day that we're born and the day we realize why we are born. And so what we have to do is we just can't leave our children's minds to the public school system. They will never train our kids to be competitive with their kids. That's not going to happen, period. No. That's our responsibility. And I'm saying to the young people that's listening, Decide that you have something special. You're a masterpiece. You were chosen out of 400 million sperm. You are a piece of the master. Decide that you're going to make something of yourself. Decide that you're going to make your family proud. Decide that you're going to make your life be a life that matters, a life of impact. And it's not as easy for us to say that, But what we must do, one, be the example. People say practice what you preach. No, preach what you practice. And we have to work to cultivate their thinking and have them turn off these tablets and monitor what they're watching on these phones. When I was coming along, they had ABC, CBS, and NBC. Now our children are exposed to everything. And their minds are not prepared for that. It's corrupting their thinking. Thinking. That's why the suicide rate is so high. And so the cultures are created by people, and they can be changed by people. And the secret is that we must maintain commitment to do our part to change the culture through all the frustrations, through all the disappointments, through all the setbacks that we're going to encounter in changing the way that we function as a community, and as a country. And I'm saying to young people today, your life matters. We need you here. And we will share with you the things that you need. And I think it's very important. I think more than ever, for people that are listening and want to learn strategies on what they can do in their communities and how to begin to elevate the thinking of their children, we're going to introduce things that we have done with young people from all walks of life that would be very beneficial that they can take back to their communities. This is the time, all hands on deck. This is the time that we have to work together to turn this situation around. This is a time where crazy is becoming the new normal, and we don't want to just accept that. So, "Oh, ain't it awful?" No! You're either part of the solution or you're part of the problem. And we want people to come, parents who are concerned, come and be a part of the solution because you will find some answers.
Yes, I love it. So, and if you want to bring your teenagers or your young—
Yes, bring them. Yes, indeed. They love to hear me talk about how I became a disc jockey. LB Triple P, Les Brown, your platter playing papa. There were none before me and there will be none after me. Therefore, that makes me the one and only. Young and single, love to mingle, certified, bona fide, and dubiously qualified to bring you satisfaction, a whole lot of action. Look out, don't let this 78 fool you, I still got some rap up in here, up in here.
Yeah, so bring your young children. I mean, just type the word LES and you can attend virtually or in person here in Miami on the 7th. You were going to say something?
No, I was just going to say that Les is an example of how accurate and how effective it is, everything that we teach on self-development, you know, optimism and all that, how it works in your life. Because like, for example, I'm still learning and I have my ups and downs, but Les has been doing it for a long time and he practices what he preaches. So he's always happy, he's always laughing, he's always in a good mood, always helping others. So it's a good example to follow. So if you want to meet in person somebody like Leslie, which is a legend, it will be an honor for sure. It will be something that you will remember forever.
Yes.
Margarita, let me share something with you. You hit the jackpot when you married Alejandro. We spent a lot of time together. That's my brother from another mother. And it is so, so rewarding working with him. And I know he's coming for me, but I'm not scared of you, Alejandro. No, no, no. Yes, and he has a passion and he has a heart for people like you. And that's very important. Where your heart is, there your treasure is also. God is love, and he who dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in them. And he has such a loving spirit, and he loves you. He said that when he saw you, he became very spiritual. He said, the Lord is my shepherd, I see what I want. I just made that up.
Brother Mista. Yes. Sister too. OK, so everybody, this is such a privilege to get 35 minutes with the legend. Some people here are starting your presidential campaign. I don't know if you're reading those messages. We love you. We need more people like you. If you said, I asked you at the beginning, how many of you really want to invest in yourselves and be part of the change? Don't expect change, be the change you want to see in the world. Just come, you're gonna love it. This is gonna change your life. Les, every time I think I have heard it all, and I read a lot in Alejandro, and I have mentors, every time I listen to Les, I'm like, my mind goes, You know, and you open my eyes and you take me further. So it's going to be a privilege. Just type the word Les. Make sure you're with us on May 7th. Si hablas español, va a haber traducción para los que no hablan inglés para que puedan disfrutar de Les Brown, que es una leyenda. Les, thank you so much. What a privilege to have you here. We love you. You know we love you.
Thank you.
I love you too.
Bye-bye. Bye-bye.
See you on the 7th. Love you. You're the best.
Yes, thank you.
Bye-bye. Take care.
