Tim Hubbard (host) introduces a YouTube video arguing that modern smart locks are essential for short-term rentals. He warns that using physical keys, lockboxes, or outdated digital locks can frustrate guests, and that choosing the wrong digital lock can create more problems than a simple lockbox.
If you're still using physical keys or a lockbox for your short term rental, or even a digital lock that doesn't have an online dashboard, well, you're operating like it's 2015 still, and believe me, you're going to have a guest that comes along and they're going to hate you for it. Smart locks aren't just a nice to have amenity anymore, they really are an essential for any short term rental, and they're something that guests have come to expect. I know that sounds crazy, but here's what most hosts don't know. If you choose the wrong digital locks, you could actually be creating more challenges for your guests and more difficult than just sticking with your lockbox.
