Susan Britton MCC explains ICF PCC marker 7.4: while 7.2 and 7.3 deepen thinking about self and situation, 7.4 moves toward concrete behavioral change. She shows how to ask what clients could do differently and who they admire for different behaviors, turning insights into actionable steps.

Susan with the Academies out on my walk, and I am next to right now our neighborhood fire department, which is so nice to have. So I've been doing tips on ICF PCC markers, and I'd like to talk a little bit now about PCC marker number 7.4. So 7.2 and 7.3 have to do with expanding and deepening thinking about self and situation, and then when you get to 7.4, it has to do with expanding and thinking, thinking about how the client can behave differently around the situation that you've been talking about. So why that's important is that you want to make sure that you've got the client able to go out and do something differently to be able to get the changes that they need in their, their leadership or their career or their life. So questions that would elicit 7.4 would be things like, what are your thoughts on what you could do differently given some of the insights that you just had about your values, your thinking, your leadership? So you're kind of tying all of those competencies together, 7.2, 3, and 4, by asking, what else could you do? What else would you like to do? Who, who do you admire who is doing things differently and having success? What pieces of that might come into play? So behavior is the key difference between some of the earlier 7.2 and 3 markers within all of those PCC markers and evokes awareness.
