In this interview segment, Susan Britton MCC explains how she celebrated a recent birthday by gifting herself a master’s degree at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. She describes the extensive commitment involved—making eight to nine trips, traveling over 100,000 miles, and offsetting carbon emissions—while deepening her expertise in neuroscience and adding a systems psychodynamic lens to her leadership and career coaching practice. Susan highlights the importance of understanding unconscious processes that shape thoughts, behaviors, and values, and notes that she is currently midway through her final research and thesis for the program.

So now you have created an understanding of your leadership coaching, your career coaching using neuroscience. And then where did you take it from there?
I gave for myself— I had a big birthday recently and I gave to myself a master's degree program at a very prestigious university INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. And I gave myself the gift of going to that program and enrolling in a master's. And I took 9, 8, 8 trips over to France, logged over 100,000 miles and paid my dues on the carbon credits and learned and added on to all that I've been doing around the neuroscience piece with a systems psychodynamic element. So now understanding the brain in kind of a different way in a deeper way and understanding that there's a lot of unconscious stuff that we have no clue that we are doing in terms of how we think, how we behave, what our values are. And so right now, I'm in the middle— as you're speaking to me, I'm in the middle of doing my final research and my thesis.
