A coach needs a clear definition of coaching that works for their context. The International Coach Federation defines it as a partnership that inspires people to maximize their potential. Adapt that definition to fit whether you're coaching as a leader or a leadership coach.
One of the things that I've learned, if you are going to be coaching, you want to have an understanding of a definition, one that works for you and one that works for your stakeholders. And I think the best place to start is actually the ICF definition, which is partnering with clients, and clients can be employees, in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. So we see in there that through line, that partnership. We saw a little bit about creative. And we certainly saw inspiration in maximizing their personal and professional potential. So this is a, uh, definition that you can adopt and enhance your own as well. But again, my, uh, belief is that we should have at our core an understanding of what coaching is, whether we're simply coaching as a leader or coaching as a leadership coach or doing both.
