Tanner Lee performs his original folk ballad "Like a Stone," inspired by the Edmund Fitzgerald sinking and Gordon Lightfoot's storytelling. The song follows a boy and girl growing up in isolation, bound together by loneliness and fate, with no chorus, just continuous narrative.
Now, this song is called Like a Stone. And I was listening to the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. And it's a powerful story. And it's just a story. There's no chorus really, Just kind of goes on and on. And so I took the Romeo and Juliet story and wrote it in a way that I think Gordon Lightfoot might be proud of. It's called Leica Stone.
Here was a boy Loving mother son she watched him grow she watched him play and drum he asked mama, what will I one day be? She told him song Someday he'll be the one he grew up wild and he grew up strong his hands grew up and his I began alone Deep on his mind Anytime you do no wrong but it's wandering hard left and wicked and alone Like a stone heart and like a stone finished days painfully Alone. Was a girl fair haired with bows and curls she did from pain she was her daddy's world she asked her father Danny, what will I want to be easing your fears? Bride to be a rich man's queen she grew up privileged Never once alone but as she grew older her heart began her own Like a song the future set us down Giving life with one not of her own didn't that one day headed up a ways Both unable to break the other's gate

set on fire they were wrapped up in the wild loves unforgiving, reckless wicked hate Like a stone that loves like a stone heart sun fire Together not alone. Her father heard of the deed that had been done he set out to kill that mother's son he mounted strong four men on quick guns and vowed this wrong on his name would be undone. Like a stone the cold resolve of one he set out to kill that mother's son. When they got word they understood what they had heard they found their bond would never be undone they stole a boat and set sail towards the sun Never knowing the gale that was about to come. The rain set in the ball pitched and creaked and groaned they fought through waves determined to get free the winded howled the waves tried an evil moan With a breath of forceful lovers were. Like a soul thinking Like a soul consumed by the ocean Together not alone Like a stone mellow like a stone Together they lie never to be undone.
