The hosts argue that legacy media's top-down, one-way model is broken. They cite Marshall McLuhan and Norbert Wiener to show how information actually works through feedback loops, not linear pipelines. The current claim to objective reporting, what they call the "boom of truth," misses how media functions as an ecology.

Wow. So this is a big question. Again, the first thing that came to mind is some of the influences behind the book. Clearly the way Marshall McLuhan thought about, again, media ecology, you know, comes to mind. Obviously Norbert Wiener with the whole notion of cybernetics. We've been in a very linear, I would say, stage in information processing for the last century. A lot of the media figures that still are in positions of power and responsibility, they still in many ways rely on a linear progression of agenda, editorial calendar, reporting, pump it out, and then kind of have the social on the edges.
I think we rather disparagingly call it boom of truth, don't we?
Yeah. So again, that's not how the world works.
Yeah.
So these notions of being a part of a media ecology and having more of a circular cybernetic, cybernetic orientation is actually how things work.
