Tim Arrigo argues that cynicism comes from hopelessness rooted in past failures, which erodes trust and makes you miss the opportunities God is putting in front of you. A fear-focused mindset sabotages your own transformation.

Cynicism, criticism, pessimism, and skepticism are all driven by hopelessness. See, when we've tried certain things that haven't worked for us, what ends up happening is we don't want to invest in a process because we don't actually have hope that it will produce fruit. And so as a result of that, we become cynical towards processes or strategies or people, places, and things that can actually help us. We don't want to truly invest because we don't want to get let down. We believe that people have ulterior motives, that they're vengeful, vindictive. It becomes hard to trust them. It becomes hard to actually engage in a process fully with our heart. But my brother, you have hope. Your life is not over. And right now, don't sabotage opportunities for God to transform your life because your mindset is more focused on what can go wrong than what can go right. It's more focused on how you're going to fail than how you're going to succeed. It's more focused on how you're going to get hurt rather than how you're going to heal. See, the cynicism is driven by our belief that no matter how hard we try, it will not promote an outcome that we truly want. And we lose hope, we lose faith. And what happens is we feel stuck and we feel alone, even in the presence of other people. Brother, God is calling you to something great. He's putting people in your life. He's putting strategies in your life right now. And don't sabotage that opportunity because you don't believe it. A lot of people say, you know, I got to believe it to see it, and they look for why it won't work. They focus on what is negative. Rather than focusing on the opportunity, rather than focusing on the growth, rather than seeing the opportunity to change inside every doorway that opens in their life. Don't be cynical, pessimistic. Don't be a critic. Don't be negative, because all that does is inhibits your ability to experience your greatness and put forth maximum effort into transforming your life in whatever vehicle God has put in front of you.
