I was talking to a client earlier and he said, Tim, my wife and I are fighting through deafening silence. We're fighting through deafening silence. It's like we don't even communicate. We're roommates at this point. We're just ships in the night passing one another by. Went from romance to roommates. And he said, you know, but I just don't— and he started to go, and as he started to talk, he started to talk entirely about all his wife's problems. And you know what, like, we do this because we get so frustrated because we've exhausted a strategy. See, if you're tired, you're frustrated, and you're blaming, you're externalizing, you're projecting, it's because you've exhausted your strategy and it didn't work. See, it's like a normal response to your ego for you to just blame something else or someone else or some situation. When what you tried didn't work. But what if I told you that it's not your fault that what you tried didn't work? Because what you tried didn't work. See, here's the thing. You have to get yourself to a position where you're able to take ownership again. The ownership that you take is going to free you. It's going to liberate you from being put in a position of victimhood and powerlessness. When you blame, it makes you a victim. It makes you powerless. When you ruminate in the story, what does it do? You stay in that cycle of rumination that keeps you stuck, keeps you bound, and prevents you from doing anything moving forward. Why? Because you're so resentful that you don't want to be the first person to take action. And so what do you do? You become passive-aggressive. You try to punish your wife. Through your passive-aggressive behavior. Oh, I'm going to be silent to try to make her feel pain. Oh, I'm going to throw a little underhanded dig to make her feel pain. Oh, you know what I'm going to do? I'm going to, I'm going to hold back the finances to make her feel pain. I'm going to do this to make— and what do you do, bro? You're not getting over on anybody. You're getting over on yourself. You're getting over on you. Why? Because you're not that guy. That's not how you operate in your life. You're not the type of guy who sits back and allows something to happen in his life and doesn't take action to fix it. You're a fixer. You're a problem solver. You're a builder. You're ingenuitive. You're creative. That's the worst part about all this, is it's caused you to sit on the sideline and let your life pass you by. You've become just a passive bystander. Don't be that guy who just pulls out his iPhone and films as his marriage gets destroyed. You want to bring it back to life? Recognize that reviving your marriage means reviving the man within you. Reviving the man within you. Let's bring life to that man's eyes. Let's make that man feel something again. Let's, let's get you back to a place where you've evolved, where you've transformed, where you've examined the situation and can stand in a space of total clarity. Confidence. Guess what? When you get to that place, you're truly going to look around and you're going to be shocked that you allowed yourself to play the victim as long as you did. You're going to be shocked that you allowed yourself to continue to blame your wife as long as you did. You're going to be shocked. You're going to be shocked that you emotionally procrastinated and kept kicking the can down the road on issues in your life that meant a lot to you. Don't be that guy, because you're not that guy. So don't descend and slowly descend into a lesser version of you just because it seems like Mount Everest on your own. It might seem bigger than you and bigger than your ability to deal with it, but we're at the right men in your life, with the right system in your life, with the right— with the right steps inside your life, it becomes feasible, it becomes doable. And it becomes real. So you got to really ask yourself, man, what kind of choice do you want to make? Because anything that you're conscious of, anything that you're aware of that you're not changing— once you become conscious of something, conscious of the problems, and you're not changing it, you're now choosing it. Anything that you're aware of, that you're conscious of, that you're not changing, you're now choosing. So choose wisely.
