Have you ever thought about it like this?

A man talks to fathers about why they can't give what they haven't built in themselves. You can't love your kids or partner from an empty tank. Stop performing and start being present, which means getting honest about your wounds first.
Chapters
You know why men like you end up being the best fathers? Because your whole life you've done everything for everybody else. You've provided, you've protected, you've put food on the table. You've done everything for everybody else, but because you've never done something for you, yourself. You can't truly give them what you don't give yourself. How could you give love when you don't give it to yourself? How could you— how could you emanate peace when you don't give that to yourself? How could you truly be emotionally available for them when you're not emotionally available for yourself? This is what makes you a multi-dimensional man, multi-dimensional father. Men like you end up being the best fathers, best husbands, because you know what you're missing. You know what you didn't have, and you always give them what you longed for. But see, that requires you to get in touch with a certain part of yourself where you're able to get honest, brutally honest, about the stuff going on inside of you, those wounds that operate in your life without your consent. The things that happen right beneath the skin, the stuff on the deepest part of who you are. It's like, you know how to provide, you know how to be there, you know how to be present, and you know how to give everybody in your life everything that you can by performing and providing, but not by being. See, what they truly want from you is something that you have to give yourself first. And that's love. Do you truly have a healthy love for yourself? Don't you understand? That's what this all comes down to. It's that you being the best version of you for you ends up trickling down into your family because self-investment pays dividends into every area of your life. Your kids get a better version of you. Your wife gets a better version of you. Strangers get a better version of you. Your employees get a better version of you. And here's the thing. Once you fill that void within yourself, once you stop trying to fill that void within yourself with everything other than the love that you have for yourself, that's when you find all the answers. And how do you find that love? Well, you stop being like a bucket with holes. You stop trying to fix the inside from the outside. You stop trying trying to collect all this stuff and do all these things and perform. That's why a part of you can't organize around the idea that people would love you unconditionally without you performing, without you trying to prove that you're lovable. A lot of us grew up with that. Love was something we had to prove we deserve, something we had to earn, something we had to work for. But love is action, man. When I'm talking about action, I'm talking about a healthy love for yourself, true meaningful relationships that fulfill the deepest need of who you are as a human being. You end up being the best type of father. Because don't tell me right now that you don't know what you needed. And see, as you start to fill that void within you, that empty hole, that hollow place that's been there for decades, you look around and you see what the people around you have been missing.
