Tim Arrigo speaks to men afraid of repeating their fathers' mistakes. You can break the cycle by processing past pain, investing in yourself, and setting new standards in marriage, communication, and how you lead your home. Your choices matter more than your history.

One of your greatest fears is that you're going to be just like your father. You even heard your wife say it at times, you're just like your dad. You're scared that the patterns, the cycles are not going to stop with you. You're scared that the wounds, the unresolved pain and hurt is going to continue to create collateral damage in your life and people that you love will suffer as a result. On the inside, you fear, am I enough as a dad? Am I enough in the way that I show up. I'm afraid that I'm going to treat my wife the way that my dad treated his. But I want to encourage you, brother, and let you know that the cycle can end with you, that you can be a cycle breaker in this generation. You could choose to process, resolve, work through, and become self-actualized in the process of creating something new, setting a new standard, setting a new standard about marriage, setting a new standard about communication, setting a new standard about conflict resolution, setting a new standard about intimacy, setting a new standard about trust, about managing your emotions, and about showing up as a leader inside your home. You can set that new standard. Nobody is obligated you to continue to show up the way that you show up today. You're not obligated to continue being the version of you that you are right now. The powerful thing is that you can make a choice to start breaking these patterns inside your life, to work on yourself, to invest in yourself, to prioritize self-development. Because that's a man that anybody can respect. That's a man that at the end of the day, he knows his worth and value. He knows that he's breaking cycles. He can show up for people in his life in a brand new way. And God is always doing new things in old people. So don't let this fear of you showing up just like your dad cause you to repeat and continue to perpetuate all the patterns that he didn't have the opportunity to break. Don't let that be your legacy. Make a difference and break the cycle.
