I saw somebody said they're joining me from Panama. Welcome. Right. Some other people are joining. Welcome, guys. Appreciate you guys joining. Much love. So tonight I want to talk to you guys about something that a lot of us overlook. And this is, this is a behavior that is the number one cause of divorce. This behavior is one of the primary causes of divorce. And this behavior is a behavior that a lot of people engage in in a relationship. Without even recognizing it. It's a behavior that is the silent killer of all marriages. Okay. And in this conversation, I want to explore with you guys the causes and the effects of this behavior in relationships, as well as discuss some ways to address the way that this shows up in a marriage so that you guys can inevitably move forward and you can heal, right? You can either remain in the relationship and fix it, work on it, right? Or invariably, right? Move on if that's something that, you know, is the decision that you need to make at that point. Okay. Um, appreciate you guys. Thanks so much for joining. Welcome. Um, so I jump on here live every Wednesday. If you guys ever want to join me on here, I'm on here every, every Wednesday. So if you haven't already, right, please follow me on my other platforms, whether it's Instagram, whether it's Facebook. And then right now we're live here inside the Facebook group. So just want to tell you guys, uh, welcome, welcome guys. So tonight I want to talk about again a behavior that is a behavior that literally destroys relationships. And this is a behavior that some of us may not even recognize that we're engaging in. Okay? And I want to, uh, I want to give you first to just kind of a scenario, a breakdown of a scenario. Okay? And you tell me guys if you can relate to this, right? What's up, Jared? How you doing, brother? Jared Fry, where are you joining us from, bro? Let us know. So I want to ask you guys, right, if you've ever experienced this. Okay, so let's imagine, right, that Thank you for that. So let's imagine the first person, they say, uh, let's imagine a husband and wife. Okay. And, uh, let's imagine that the wife says, you know, I think we should approach this problem differently. And the husband says, well, what makes you think you know better than me? Okay. That's, that's an example of this behavior that I'm going to talk about. Okay. Here's another example. Okay. Um, Let's imagine that a wife says, "Hey, I think this is a good solution," and the husband says, "Ah, that idea is stupid. Why would you even consider that idea?" Okay, that's another example of this behavior. I'm going to give you another example here. Okay, let's imagine a husband says, "Hey, you know what, let's look at the facts," but the wife says, "Why bother?" 'Your opinion is all that ever matters anyway.' Or let's imagine— here's another example. So let's imagine that a husband says, 'I think we need to talk this out.' Or the, the wife says, 'You know, you're always trying to make things more complicated than they need to be.' Okay, or let's imagine that a wife says, 'I think we should consider all the options here.' Okay, but a husband says, why? You always just want to do things your way anyways. How many of you guys can relate to this? Right? How many guys can relate to this behavior? Close. It's not passive aggression. It's close, right? Although that was passive aggressive. So good call on that, right? I love when you guys are able to identify the behaviors, right? I love seeing you guys grow and learn, right? That's what's so important, right? It's all about growth. It's all about evolving as a human being and as people. We want to always evolve, right? Definitely dismissing. Close. Wasn't gaslighting. It's called contempt. Okay, this behavior is called contempt. Okay, now contempt is one of the leading causes of divorce. And contempt can be a silent killer of relationships. Thomas Chandler says, hey Tim, just got here. What's up, Thomas? Glad you're able to join us, man. Kate Kate says, or when the wife says, let's go to marriage counseling together, and the husband says, you're the crazy one. That's another great example. So that's an example of contempt. Thank you, Kate. It's a great example. Or Jared Fry says, he says dismissing. Another great example. So I want to provide you guys, right, provide you guys with some examples, but I really want to explain what this is. Okay, so contempt is basically, it's a feeling of superiority over somebody. Okay, so it can be expressed in a marriage through criticism, through sarcasm, through name-calling, belittling, stonewalling. Okay, and oftentimes it's a sign of an underlying power struggle in the marriage. Okay, and the partner may feel like they have more power or are more important than the other partner. How many of you guys have ever been there? You've been in a situation where you feel like, man, I feel like I'm in this power struggle in my relationship, right? You guys in a power struggle in your relationship? How many of you guys are there right now? Just type me in the comments, right? If this is you, you're feeling like, yeah, Tim, you know what, I'm in a power struggle in my marriage, I'm in a power struggle in my relationship. And it's like this back and forth. We're constantly arguing, right? So many people are saying me, right? And I want to let you guys know this stuff is so normal. And, and sometimes we feel stuck in these relationships and we don't realize, right, that there's real-life solutions to work on this stuff. So again, guys, that's, that's why I always tell you guys, it's important to have a growth mindset, right? It's important to know, right, I can work on these things, I can improve, I'm not stuck here, right? So now, what, what can contempt do in a relationship, right? And I'm sure you guys have experienced this. So contempt can basically completely destroy one of the person's self-esteem. It can lead to breakdowns in communication, breakdowns in trust, and it can erode feelings of love and respect that are absolutely essential for a healthy relationship. Right? So, how many of you guys, right, have been in this situation? Now, so many of you guys ask me, you know, all the time about these behaviors. And I always tell you guys about taking the lead, about making the change, and that's what the Total Breakthrough Academy is all about. So, the Total Breakthrough Academy is all about— it's the private coaching program that I facilitate and that I run with my team. And me and my team, we get in the trenches with you and we help you work through these deeper issues. Um, we do online groups, we do online calls, they're private calls where I teach from my private curriculum. Um, we also have a proven process with 3 phases. So we have an excavation phase where we help you identify and extract the root of the problem and ignite momentum. We help you forge new synaptic connections and align your inner man, and then we help you activate your new identity, redeem your dignity, and experience your true power. Eric says, I'm guilty of this. I've done this so many times in response to Kate's comment about the wife wanting to go to counseling, but, uh, the husband saying that you're crazy, right? So this is so common. This stuff happens, guys. So, um, if you guys are interested in learning more about Total Breakthrough Academy, you can type info in the comments for you guys. You can check it out, the links in my bio. Um, so this stuff's so crucial. It's important stuff to look at. Um, because why? Our relationship is going to die. The marriage is gonna die. I'm gonna end up in a situation where I'm feeling totally alone, totally isolated, and I'm gonna live in regret about the changes that I should have made but I didn't, right? And again, the partner who's on the receiving end of the contempt also is gonna feel demeaned. They're gonna feel, uh, devalued. They're gonna feel depressed as a result of this, and they're gonna have lower self-esteem. So my question for all you husbands out there is If God gave you this amazing asset, your wife, your marriage, why would you want a partner that— why would you want to put down your partner, devalue your partner, and demean your partner when that's someone that you need to live with and are going to be with for the rest of your life? Okay, let me ask you that again. Why would you as a man need to exalt yourself over your wife, put put your wife down, demean and devalue your wife when you have to live with your wife and you get to live with your wife every day? Do you realize how that's the ultimate form of self-sabotage, right? That's the ultimate form of self-sabotage, and it's going to destroy all feelings of love and respect. Okay? And if someone's on the receiving end of this, right, obviously there's going to be a lack of connection, a lack of intimacy. I always tell you guys, empathy is the bridge to intimacy. In order to create intimacy, there has to be empathy. Empathy is not feeling bad for somebody. Empathy is connecting to somebody emotionally and understanding what they're feeling. We have to increase our emotional intelligence. We have to increase our emotional intelligence. You can use your power through mentality in your business, but check it out, it's never going to work in your marriage. Never going to work in your marriage. Right now, once the underlying causes of the contempt are identified, it's important to create an environment of open communication and mutual respect. You can validate your wife without agreeing with her. You can say, hey, you know what, honey, I totally can see that perspective. You know what, I appreciate you for sharing that, without having to agree with her. I don't have to agree with it, and I don't have to let her know that I don't agree. What is it about— see, here's, here's the real kicker though, and this is really the, uh, the reality of how transparent some people are. You're never going to meet a single person in your life that has high self-esteem, that has good self-confidence, that feels the need to put other people down. Never going to meet that person. People like that don't have the time or the energy to go out of their way to tear other people down. So your behavior says everything about you. Your behavior never lie. Behavior never lies. Your behavior is transparent. How do I know? Because I've been there. Because I've been there, making everybody in my life the collateral damage. And again, that's why I'm so passionate about this. I know you guys can feel my passion at times, right? Is that I want to see you guys succeed. I want to see you guys get a total breakthrough in your life because you think, oh, I got to solve these issues in my marriage. Brother, this is about you learning how to love yourself. You can't give love because you don't have it for yourself. You can't give what you don't have, what you don't possess. So this is you learning how to love yourself. Don't you understand what this is? It's so much more than just correcting the issues in your marriage. Now, if I can create an environment of communication and mutual respect, do you think that that's advantageous to my growth? Do you think that that's beneficial for me as a businessman, as a married man, as a husband, as a father? Absolutely. That I can create an environment that's conducive to my growth and my positivity and my inspiration and my creativity and my ingenuity. Yeah, I can create that environment. Why are you— my question for you, bro— why are you sabotaging the environment that you have that's designed to help, that you have to create from? You got to wake up in that environment, you got to go to bed in that environment, you got to eat in that environment. You got to connect and communicate in that environment. Why would you want to sabotage that environment? Why? What is that about? And I'm going to tell you, most of the time is because that environment forces you to be a different version than the version of you that you are in the workplace. You have to have a downshifted version of you. And again, I talk about the downshift all the time. If you haven't already, please go download my free downshift technique. It's in the link in my bio. Please, please, guys, please take advantage of my free resources. I made these for you guys. They're to help you get breakthrough. So many people are applying this downshift technique and they're getting massive value from it. Why? Because it works. It's a proven system. It's a proven process. You guys are so welcome. It's my honor and privilege. So again, now we need to take the time to explore what we're feeling and, and the concerns that we have, learning to validate our wife. It's important to recognize that contempt is a sign of deeper issues in the relationship. And if I, if I'm unable to address, right, that's why marriage counseling doesn't work. Oftentimes all it— you're— think about that. Why? Because the The issues in the marriage, it's like addition, right? You have this issue with you that are bringing out these issues in her. You combine the two and then what? It creates this nuclear explosion and then you're trying to address— it's like taking two chemicals, putting them together and getting a chemical reaction and then trying to address the chemical reaction without first understanding the chemistry that created that reaction. You have to understand. The issues that are going on with you. It's not about changing the marriage. It's about changing the man that shows up to the marriage. One more time, it's not about changing the marriage, brother. It's not about fixing the problems in your marriage. It's about fixing the problems that the man has in his life. It's about fixing the man that shows up to the marriage. That shows up to the problems in the marriage, that shows up to his wife's problems. So many of you guys, you want to feel respected. But the problem is, is that you don't respect yourself. I had a gentleman reach out to me the other day, said, Tim, how do I gain back respect? I said, do you respect yourself? Do you respect the way you handle your emotions? Do you respect yourself with your self-destructive behaviors? Do you respect you? How could you expect people to respect you when you don't even respect yourself? Or let alone respect other people. And it's amazing. I always ask people, you know, would you let people in and would you let them look inside of your home? Look inside of your marriage? Would you take the trash cans from outside And would you take those trash cans, okay? And would you empty the trash cans from outside into your living room? Obviously you wouldn't do that. Then why would you be taking out all your anger on your family, man? And listen, bro, I've been there. I've been there. And here's the powerful part. A lion doesn't need to prove that he's a lion. A lion doesn't need to prove that he's a lion. He just is. He just is. And see, that's the powerful part. When you wash your hands of all dysfunction— I just showed you guys a video on this where I talk about this— ridding myself of all dysfunction was a power move in my life. Passive aggression, raising my voice, overreacting. Nobody's perfect, but here's the deal. Anything that I'm aware of that I'm not changing, I'm now choosing. So many of you guys are aware of your dysfunctional behavior, but you're not changing it. So I'm going to tell you this right now. You're choosing it, and you have an opportunity to choose something different right now. Right now. If you want to choose something different, right, right Right? Info in the comments. Somebody from our team will reach out to you. So, right? So, so many of you guys, you get stuck in this situation, right? Kate says, genius. Thank you, Kate. I appreciate that. I'm humbled by that. Thomas Chandler, hey Tim. Okay, so Shelley, we've increased our connection recently just by communication. And that's what, Anthony, loving yourself as a priority. Right? Is loving yourself a priority? Absolute. Absolutely, guys. You, you, you have to love yourself. And what does loving yourself look like? I'll tell you what it looks like. It looks like taking action and making the changes that you know you need to make. That's an act of love. Love is a verb. You can't tell people that you love them and then neglect them. So many of you guys, yeah, man, hey, I love you. I love you. You're saying I love you on your way to work or leaving the front door, but people in your life, it's just empty words. They don't feel it. And how many times have you said something out of anger to your wife? You put her down or you called her a name, and then you're like, well, I didn't mean it. But then I can say I love somebody and I can mean it and they're supposed to believe me? Love is action, man. Love is action. So many of my guys are getting crazy breakthroughs in the program and they're learning to love themselves. And guess what? They're learning to be men of their word. They're taking action. This program is not a, a therapy program. This is an online men's coaching brotherhood. This is a coaching program where you learn, where you get challenged, where you grow, where you get to excavate, engineer, and then emerge as a new man. As the man that you always were. And again, so many of us as men, we have so many wounds that we bury. We have so much stuff that we carry around with us that we overcompensate for. And our wives, our family, they end up becoming the collateral damage to the work that we didn't do. Right? If you guys are typing info in the comments over here, go in the link in my bio. Okay, you can click the link in my bio and you can ask— access all my stuff inside there. So guys, I speak from a place of experience in my life with so many of you guys that I've worked with personally, right? Thomas says, I'm in that boat right now. Thomas says, I'm having regret, right? Thomas, tell me, brother, what are you feeling regret from? Eddie, Eddie, I see you, brother. We'll have somebody reach out to you. So you guys let me know, right? What are you guys feeling regret from? right? And here's the thing about regrets, right? If I have regrets about something, that's a key indication that I need to change it. So if I, if I'm engaging in contempt, like for example, name-calling, refusing to communicate. I mean, think about that. I'm refusing to communicate, belittling or mocking the other person, refusing to compromise. Ignoring the other person's point of view, withholding affection, withholding support, making assumptions or judgments about the other person's intentions. So you're jumping to conclusions, refusing to admit when you're wrong, making demands or ultimatums, threatening divorce when you know you don't really want it. Rolling your eyes or making faces in response to the other person. I mean, come on, man, you're so above that. You're so above that, it's unbelievable. Come on, man, you're, you're, you're, you're called to be a gentleman. To be a gentleman. It's amazing, right? Like how so many of you guys, you're, you, you you get triggered. And the reality is you think that you're not supposed to get triggered, bro. Getting triggered is a part of being in relationships. It's a part of life. It's not about whether or not you get triggered. It's what you do when you're triggered. It's not about not being triggered. It's about what you do when you're triggered. How do you carry yourself? With confidence and composure? Or do you get all dysregulated and break character? Most powerful thing you could ever do as a man is ask for help, is to realize, hey, I'm the guy that everybody comes to for answers to problems in my business, but yet ironically, I'm, I, I'm the guy that can't solve the biggest problem in my life, which is my marriage, my relationship. That's okay, because relationships are where your deepest needs are met. So the reality is, it's not the issues that you're looking at in the marriage, it's the issues inside of you that you brought into the marriage. And now it's showing up and it's destroying the, the one of the most beautiful things in your life. You're slowly killing a great thing, man. You're slowly killing a good thing. How many of you guys have been there? How many guys have been there? Slowly killing a good thing. I know in my life I slowly killed a lot of good things, a lot of good things. There was a lot of repairing. I had to repair the damage in the relationships that was caused by my old self. The atonement— you got to atone for that. That's a rite of passage. You got to be willing to walk through the pain. So many of you guys, you engage in these behaviors, these secretive behaviors. You guys know what I'm talking about. And then what, you compare yourself to some guy down the street to justify and rationalize why? Bro, you, you should be rare. You should be uncommon. That's what this is about. It's about living a life that's above reproach, not about just being some average individual, man. You were meant to live a radical life. You weren't meant to live a mundane life. You were meant to live a fucking radical life. You were meant to have a passionate marriage, and you wonder why it's just draining and there's no passion and there's no energy and there's no spark. Bro, it starts with you. It starts with you. And again, I wish I had somebody in my life earlier telling me this, because my first marriage ended in divorce because I couldn't get it together. And now, thank God, right, I've had an amazing, beautiful marriage with two beautiful children that I would do anything for. And as a result of what? Sharing with you guys will work for me. It's the change, man. I love seeing you guys win, man. The guys in my program, we're all so tight. Like, I mean, the guy— I mean, the chat, the group chat that we had going on today inside of our app. So we have an app that we all communicate with inside of our app. The amount of love and support inside the app today. I told all the guys, I said, this is what it's all about, man. This is what it's all about. Thomas Chandler says, I had to put up walls. Here we go. Jared Fry, check yourself before you wreck yourself. Rise above. Let's go, brother. So Thomas Chandler says, I had to put up walls and would blame shift when I would get uncomfortable when my lady called me out on stuff. Yeah, man. I mean, I could relate to that. A lot of people can. I lacked empathy and just neglected her emotions. Why? Because I would get stuck in my own head. I would pretend I wasn't hurting at times instead of just talking to her about it. Bottling up your feelings, man. Yeah. So the app, Jared, the app is a part of our private program. The app is a part of the Total Breakthrough Academy. So he said, Thomas. So yeah, I did slowly killed our relationship. And I didn't try to fix it the right way. I also used quick fixes and ran from facing my feelings. And from looking at the root issues inside me that triggered my feelings that put the walls up as a defense. Whoa, there it is. And man, there's every— I mean, how many guys can relate to that story right there? And thank you, brother, for sharing that, right? So many guys can relate to that story. And it's like, why are you not— here's the, here's the biggest issue. Why are you not addressing the problem in the marriage? Because that forces you to have to address why you have the problem in the marriage and have— you have to look at yourself. So you have to introspect You have to self-analyze. You have to observe yourself. You have to study yourself. You have to get to know yourself. You have to look inward. And for guys that have buried tons of shit over the years, looking inside is really painful. Looking inside is really scary. It's hard. It's painful because there's a lot. There. And then you realize, okay, I get it, Tim. I get it. Total Breakthrough Academy is about changing the man that shows up to the marriage. Because if I change the guy that shows up to the marriage, it inevitably becomes a healthier marriage. Had a gentleman the other day and he said, I think about, you know, what if my wife left me for a better man? And he said, and I get in my head thinking about who this better man would be, and I start to realize that that better man is all the things that I should be doing. It's all the things that I'm not changing. I'm starting to think who this better guy would be, and then I'm realizing I should stop wasting my time thinking about what this better man is, and I should just become this guy. And I'm telling you right now, when you lead by example, You can't control people, but you can influence them. And if you're bringing out the worst in people around you, don't be surprised when you bring out the best in them. And if you bring out the best in people around you, don't be surprised when you bring out the worst. In your business, if your employees were unhappy, if your employees disliked you, would you blame your employees? If 10 of your employees had an issue with you, Would you blame all your employees? That sounds like a guy who's engaging in self-deception. It forces us to have to look at us, man. And again, this is what the work is all about. It's all about looking inside of you. It's all about doing the deeper work. And that's why I tell you guys all the time, please take advantage of my free resources. It's about doing that work. Thomas says, That's big. You own your responsibilities. My husband doesn't own up to his and I'm broken for him. Okay. Hurt from past relationships and never healing. It's a big part. Yeah. Thomas says, I did the same thing your husband did in mine, my lady. I had to rely— I had to really look at myself and find out what made me feel the way I did. Right. And I love this, man. And Thomas, I appreciate your transparency, man. That's, that's what this is all about, guys. It's, it's about taking action. It's about taking action. And the solution to contempt in a dying marriage is you got to work on rebuilding yourself so that you can rebuild the marriage. It means engaging, learning to engage in meaningful communication. Learning how to manage your emotions better, and, and learning how to bring out the best in yourself so you can bring out the best in other people, right? And again, when you do this, watch how things change when you recognize, right, the value that you possess, not from a place of ego but from a place of humility. Humility is, is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less. It's considering your wife's perspective. It's valuing your wife for what she does and what she brings to the table in terms of being your partner, your life partner. What is it about when you want to devalue your life partner, demean your life partner? What is that about? And so many guys They want to blame their wives. That's all the time. It's like, but what about my wife? What about my wife? And it's just so funny to me. It's like, yeah, this message isn't for you. This message is for people who want to take the initiative and stop blaming their wife. Because brother, at this point in time, the water is so murky because your behavior is not even in alignment. So you don't have a leg to stand on. So you blaming your wife isn't in solving the problem. You want to get clarity? You want to decide whether or not you want to move forward in your life and whether or not you guys should be together to begin with? You need to work on you. So why are you making an excuse about your wife, your wife, your wife to work on you? Why? Why is anybody preventing you from living at your best, your full potential? Why? That's you just kicking the can down the road, man, using another excuse. It takes two to tango. I see all the same shit. All the time. Same comments, same cliché sentiments. I don't buy into any of it. See, if you spend time around me, you're— the best is coming out of you. Let me tell you right now, talk to anybody on my team, talk to anybody that is close to me in my life. You spend time with me, I'm bringing out the fucking best in you. I'm gonna lift you up. You're gonna be inspired. You're gonna feel amazing. Why? Because those are the people that I want around me. I want to create assets around me. Why would I want to tear down people around me? What does that say about me? How inferior do I feel? How afraid do I feel? How bad do I need to overcompensate and control people? It's going to take a lot of work for you to look inside, but again, I'm here for that work. We're here for that work. Total Breakthrough Academy is here for that work. Beyond Driven is here for that work. The coaches I work with are here for that work. We're ready. You ready to jump on a team with us? Let us know. Let us know. The link is in my page. Go click it, check it out, book a call with us. We'll get on a discovery call with you. We'll talk about whether you're a good fit or not. We don't work with anybody, by the way. We do not work with anybody. We only work with individuals who are committed and driven and ready to take initiative and take action. We will walk with you through the fire, but we will not hold your hand. We will not be coddling you. You will be challenged to bring out the best in you, and it's going to be all love, man. You're going to get loved on, you're going to get supported, you're going to get challenged, you're going to get encouraged, you're going to be motivated and inspired, and you're going to learn a lot. You're going to learn a lot. And this is so much more than marriage, man. This is about going deep within you, your father wounds. This is about the things you've been through in your life, the experiences that you carried into the marriage, all that. It's about opening your eyes, because in order to see in other people and meet other people where they're at, you have to do that with yourself first, man. It's going to take a lot of work, and you can rebuild the trust, you can rebuild the intimacy, you can rebuild it all, man. You're capable of that.
