Tim Arrigo explains emotional reasoning, the mistake of treating feelings as facts. He suggests pausing to engage your thinking brain instead of your emotional one, then reassessing the evidence before you act on what you feel.

Feelings aren't facts. When you feel something and you base your reality off of it, that's called emotional reasoning. So instead of using logic and facts and critical thinking, what you're doing is you're letting your emotions call the shots. You're basing your current reality on your subjective emotional experience. Here's an example. You feel disrespected and you think, my wife doesn't respect me. You feel unloved and so you say, my wife doesn't love me. You feel, you feel an emotion and you base your reality off that emotional experience. And then what happens is you tell yourself a story about the emotion. You make that your reality. And the more that you tell yourself that story, the more it comes into fruition and it becomes a fulfilling prophecy in your life. I feel like my wife doesn't respect me. I feel like my wife doesn't love me. I feel like my wife isn't attracted to me. And then what ends up happening is you end up manifesting that because it's all you think. You think this way because you feel this way, and then you act in accordance with those beliefs. And these beliefs are constantly governing and dictating your behavior, and it's all because you make what you feel your reality. Your Feelings are not facts. And this is why you need to step back from your emotional experience and realize that just because you're feeling something doesn't make it real. Just because you're feeling something doesn't make it a fact, doesn't make it objective reality facts. It does not make it the truth about the experience. Yeah, maybe what you're feeling inside, that's valid. It may be your subjective experience, and that's real. But in terms of turning what you feel emotionally into a reality and into a scenario and into a story and a narrative that you create about your life and your relationship with your wife, where that's going to take you is somewhere that you don't want to go. So next time you feel something, step back. Don't operate, right, from your emotional brain. Don't operate from your limbic system. Operate from your cortex. Hit the e-brake. Step back. Breathe. Start to use your cortex to assess what's happening. Start to look at all possible scenarios. Start to process what's actually happening and stop basing your reality off of your feelings.
