Winning arguments with your spouse costs you intimacy, sex, and connection. Real relationship health means losing: admitting fault, showing empathy, validating your partner's feelings instead of proving you're right.
Chapters
Your concept of winning and losing is completely backwards. See, your concept of winning every argument with your spouse is always being right, always needing to prove your point, always needing her to see your perspective, always needing her to buy into the solutions that you offer, always needing her to recognize you as superior. But see, your concept of winning every argument is actually a concept of losing because it's costing you everything. You're actually losing the intimacy. You're losing your sex life. You're losing the connection. You're losing the marriage. You're losing the passion and the fire and the spark of the romance that you two once had for each other. And see, your concept of losing, right, is that— is empathizing, is allowing her to feel seen and heard. Is admitting that you're wrong, is learning how to apologize, knowing when to approach your wife with soft startups, learning how to have compassion, learning how to see things from her perspective, how to validate your wife. But instead, see, you see this as a concept of losing because why? You feel like somebody's controlling you. And so what has this done? It's allowed you to try to use that same power through mentality you use in business, in your marriage, because you think that it's going to allow you to win. You just want to win. You're ego-driven. You just want to win. But wanting to win is causing you to lose. Your concept of winning is a concept of losing, and it's costing you everything. So why don't you realize that you have it completely backwards?
