Tim Arrigo explains how your own pain acts as a filter when you listen to others. When someone gives you feedback, you hear it through your wounds and react defensively instead of understanding what they actually meant.
Chapters
The reason you're not listening is because you hear everything through the filter of your own pain. You take everything personal. You see everything as an attack. You can't take constructive criticism without reacting. Why? Because you have a filter, and that filter is your internal pain, your negative relationship with yourself. So when people, right, say things to you or try to give you feedback or try to give you constructive criticism, you just react to it because you spent all day having to suppress that and live in denial about it. So God forbid somebody puts it right in front of your face and forces you to look at it. Why don't you heal so you stop hearing everything that everyone's saying to you through the filter of your own pain?
