In this monologue, the speaker addresses a man whose wife appears to be pulling away, explaining that her withdrawal is not a sign of indifference but a response to feeling hurt, lost, and disconnected. He argues that the lack of emotional connection has eroded intimacy, romance, and vulnerability, leaving the marriage empty. The speaker warns that continued neglect opens the door to infidelity and divorce, describing the marriage as slowly “bleeding out” through countless small hurts. He stresses that rescuing the relationship now will require deliberate effort, energy, and commitment; postponing action will make the required work far harder and may lead to the marriage’s collapse.

What you see as your wife pulling away from you is actually your wife feeling hurt and lost. And she feels hurt and lost because she's disconnected from you. Your connection is powerful. Your connection to your wife is powerful. What brought you to the precipice of your own marriage was that connection. So it shouldn't be a surprise that as there's a lack of connection, my wife feels lost, she feels disconnected, and she feels hurt. And when people feel that way, they engage in survival mechanisms as a way to what? Deal with it, to cope. So what you see is a reflection of what you think, or how you think your wife actually feels about you, is actually wrong. The sep— the, the, the, the way your wife pulls back from you, from your presence, is not because she doesn't love you, brother. It's because she's hurt, she feels lost, and it's because she does love you, but She has nowhere to put that love. It's love with nowhere to put it. Love that has nowhere to go. And then you wonder why you can't seem to get through to your wife when your wife is trying to figure out how you can't read between the lines, how you can't see the bigger picture, how you can't get a hint at the fact that your lack of connection is causing a lack of passion, a lack of romance, a lack of intimacy, a lack of vulnerability. And the marriage feels empty and hollow. And so many men think that they have more time in a situation like this, like, oh well, I have it figured out, you know, my wife would never leave me. Let me tell you right now, you're opening yourself up to potential infidelity. You're opening yourself up, right, to a situation where divorce can get put on the table because you might be in control of a lot of things in your life, but there's another party involved in your situation, and that person has free will. They're not mandated to be with you despite what you believe. So you can keep procrastinating and putting this off, but inevitably what's gonna happen is the bridge to get to the other side it's going to become longer, more arduous and difficult. Why? Because you're prolonging the pain. Inevitably, your marriage is dying by a thousand paper cuts, and it's bleeding out slowly. And as you allow your marriage to, to lose the life, its vitality, its vibrance, its essence— as your marriage loses that, you're going to have to resuscitate it. And when you have to resuscitate it, it's going to take you effort, energy, and commitment. And if you're not willing to put in the effort, the energy, and commitment right now, what makes you think that you're gonna be willing to do it when it's hanging on by a thread?
