Nick Ash talks with an estate planner who was made redundant from an insurance job in 2005 with no severance pay. At 42 with two young kids, they decided never to work for an employer again and built a career as a respected UK estate planner instead.
Nick Ash, wills and probate mastermind. Tell us a bit about your journey.
Yeah, they call me the most respected estate planner in the uk, which is.
That's a tagline.
Which is quite cool and I'm quite, quite proud to own that one, to be honest with you. I guess it all started back in 2005 when I was made redundant by a large insurance company. I was working on a rolling contract and every October they used to renew my contract. So I remember phoning them in around about July 2005 and saying contracts up for renewal and they went, yeah, about that.
Was this a large insurer in Peterborough?
This was. Yeah, it was one of the larger insurers in Petersburg. I won't embarrass them by naming names, but, yeah, it was. So I was 42 years old, wife, two young kids to support. Because it was contract work, I didn't get any redundancy pay and. And I knew I didn't want to work for anybody else ever again.
