Tim Davies on how AI went from useless experiments in 2016 to genuinely useful in four years. He argues large organizations need an explorer's mindset and should start with small bets, not overnight transformation.
Within kind of my units. We started messing with AI machine learning, really. Kind of as far back as 2016, 2017. We started generating back in 2018, 19. And honestly, it was rubbish. We couldn't do anything with it. We're like, this is cute and it's interesting, but we can't do anything with it. And fast forward four years and obviously you can. But I think that explorer's mindset is hugely important. And cultivating and nurturing that explorer's mindset is incredibly important to help a business prepare. Now, you can't wholesale transform a 5,000 person business overnight. Absolutely. But you do have to start somewhere. So one of the things we talk about is you can't learn to swim from the shore. Right. You have to find the small, somewhat low risk bets. You can do.
