A short excerpt from a July 2024 conversation (Tim Davies and others) about how advanced AI will make it difficult to distinguish humans from synthetic agents, raising security concerns for organizations. The speakers warn that multi-channel impersonation (email plus phone) could defeat traditional authentication and urge companies to adopt channel-spanning, multi-factor verification and transaction-specific passwords/validations.

We're not going to know when, when we're talking to a human and when we're not in, in not too far future it's going to be, you know, are you real?
Well and that raises some serious questions around security within an organization. I mean you and the rest of the team regularly get emails from Tim asking for things. If that was then a phone call is that more convincing if you were getting it by email and phone call at the same time does that breach a company's multi factor authentication checks? So when I'm talking to corporations and I'm saying you need to have passwords that you use for specific content you need to have authentication across multiple channels. So if somebody says make this financial transaction or make this strategic change you validated it in a multitude of ways to make sure that it has actually come from the person that said it has. Yeah because we're not going to know. You're right.
