Tim Davies' team blocks Friday afternoons to test new AI tools and models instead of doing client work. Each person picks something from a list, tries it out, and records a short demo video. They're starting to share these candid evaluations with subscribers and the public.

So what is playtime on a Friday afternoon? Our whole team downs tools so that we don't work on any customer projects and we focus on understanding what the latest capabilities and technologies are. So we have a long list of potential new tools, models, repositories to look at, and we evaluate them and choose which of them each of us are going to look at. We'll have a look at that over the course of the Friday afternoon. We'll test it, we'll play with it, and then we'll produce a short video clip which originally was designed just to educate the wider team on the capabilities of that particular tool. If it's an AI tool that's just off the shelf repository, if it's on GitHub, it's somebody else's code that's open source or is available for us to evaluate, or in terms of a model, when it's a new AI capability that's been released by a lab. But now we're thinking, well, these videos we're making, they've got value beyond our internal use, so we'll shortly be making these available as part of our toolkit subscription and potentially some of the better ones through our social channels so that we can share our insights from the inside, warts and all. Apologies. There will likely be some swearing on some of them, and it won't always necessarily be PC, but it will be real, honest evaluation of a variety of different tools and capabilities and hopefully nobody important will see them and we won't get sued, but we think it will be of a value to you. And so we're going to share that outside of our own use, which we've been doing so far. So that's our playtime.
