A UK transport company grew from three to 14 vehicles handling samples, courier work, and specialty deliveries across the UK and Europe. Storage became the bottleneck, so they moved their cold store operation to Peterborough on Shrewsbury Avenue with TDG, starting with 2,500 pallets and room to expand.
Transport business was growing fantastically at that time. We had small sprinters and running about doing sample work and courier work, and we'd gone from three to 14, working for local businesses and doing speciality stuff all over UK and Europe. So that was growing well, but the storage was being strangled, so we had to look at something. He started looking about, seeing what was available. Could we have a new build? Could we do something in one of the local industrial estates or new development areas that were then up and coming, but we couldn't find anything in that vicinity. And then he decided, well, go a bit further afield. And he looked at Peterborough and found it was a company there, tdg, which were a cold store company, quite big in the UK at that time. And he got in contact with our business development manager, Graham Rouse, and he said, yeah, we've got available space in Peterborough, come and have a look. Which he did. And we ended up moving to Peterborough at Shrewsbury Avenue, which is next door to where we are. We took on originally a 2,500 pallet chamber, but the agreement was we could expand as needed because they had three chambers sitting empty.
