I just got my digital version of Ali Abdaal's Feel Good Productivity and I finished it in one day. I ordered the hardback book too, but it hasn't gotten here yet. Now, full disclosure, I'm not a friend or business associate of Ali Abdaal's. We've never met, but I am a fan of his and his YouTube channel. In recent years he has taken the productivity world by storm with his provocative YouTube videos. This book distills a lot of his most important principles in a text format. If you like Ali Abdul at all his videos, his podcast, you're going to love this book. It's up there in the ranks of Four Hour Work Week and Atomic Habits because it goes against conventional wisdom. Now every productivity book talks about smart goals. You got to have smart goals. He actually gives the origin of smart goals here and debunks it. He comes up with his own version, his own set of acronyms. They're actually more insightful. He's a big believer that you've got to find things that make you happy, that put you in the proper frame of mind. So much of the productivity world is about set your alarm at 4am, be at your desk at 5am, grind an extra hour to make another 30 sales calls. When everyone else is off at the bar, don't go out and have any fun on the weekends. Just grind, grind, grind. The problem with that advice is that for most people I know, for me it's so depressing. All it does is make you feel lazy. Ali Abdaal is on our side now. He is someone very relatable. On the one hand, yes, he's really, really smart and makes tons and tons of money. But he's also someone who has flaws. He talked about how he procrastinated for seven years before he started his YouTube channel. He talks about times when he lacks confidence and gives you specific tips in this book about how to get over those hurdles. If you're looking for ways of being more productive, especially if you've read a lot of other books, watched a lot of other YouTubers, I think you're going to get a lot out of this book. I know I did.
