TJ Walker argues that modern literacy has shifted from reading/writing to "video literacy": the ability to speak and communicate on video. He claims video literacy will separate the prosperous from others but is quicker to learn than traditional literacy; he urges viewers to add video of themselves to social profiles (Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs) immediately.

Are you literate? That was the question asked for a lot of the last 400 years. The answer kind of determined whether you were successful, made money, a part of the affluent class, or mired in poverty. Today, it's a different question. Are you video literate? Are you comfortable communicating, not just watching video, which is easy, but actually speaking and communicating on video? That is the new literacy, and I think that is going to be the defining line between people who are successful, prosperous, financially well off, and everyone else. The good news is it doesn't take as long to be video literate as it does to learn how to read and write. If your Facebook page or your LinkedIn profile or your blog doesn't have video of you speaking, you need to put some on today.
