Bonus Episode - Turn Your Videos Into Real Speaking Opportunities

TJ Walker argues speakers should build a video library first, not wait for stage opportunities. Event organizers now search online for speakers and watch videos to assess fit. A portfolio of dozens of varied videos proves your delivery and style far better than a résumé alone.

Ultimize. At some point, this all has to lead somewhere. Not just practice, not just improvement, but real speaking opportunities. And this is where most people still think in the old model. They believe, I need to get on a stage first and then everything else will follow. That's backwards. Today, opportunities come from visibility. After people can see you, hear you, evaluate you, before they ever talk to you. Let me give you a real scenario. Someone's organizing an event. They need a speaker. What do they do? They search. They look online. They watch videos. Now imagine 2 options. One speaker's got a great resume, good bio, nice headshot, but checking them out on social media, YouTube presence, not much there. No real footage, no consistent examples of how they actually speak. Now there's another speaker— dozens, maybe hundreds of videos, long-form videos, live streams, short clips, different topics but highly motivational, clear delivery. You can see exactly how they think and communicate. Who gets the speaking opportunity? It's not even close because one is a description The other is proof. Now let's make this even more practical. Every video you record, it's not just a practice, it's an asset, something someone can find, someone can watch and use to decide, is this person worth listening to? Is this person someone we should hire to give a motivational speech to our audience? Here's where people go wrong. They treat every video like it has to be perfect. Like it's a final performance. That slows them down and it limits volume. Instead, think of it this way: you're building a library. Some videos will be stronger than others. It's okay because over time the collection becomes powerful. Let me give you a real-world example. Someone watches one of your videos, they think, hmm, that's interesting. Then they watch another, maybe another. Now something changes. They feel like they know you. They trust you more. They understand your message. And when an opportunity comes up, you are the person they think of, not because you chased them, not because you sent out more demo tapes, not because you cold-called them every Tuesday for 2 years, but because they've already seen you. Now let's look at the contrast. No video presence. You reach out, you say, hi, I'm a speaker. They have to take your word for it. But with a strong video presence, you reach out or they find you and they already know what you can do. That's a completely different position. Here's the idea to install. Every video is proof of what I can do, not just content, proof. So stop thinking a video is something extra, something optional, something you'll do on a day when you've done everything else and you're caught up and there's plenty of free time because that'll never happen. No, no, video, it is the foundation because the more proof you have, the easier it is for opportunities to come to you. And when that happens, you're no longer trying to convince people, you're simply showing them what already exists. And that's when speaking starts to become real, not theoretical.
