Find Jobs You Didn’t Know Existed: Use AI to Expand Your Career Options

TJ Walker shows how to use AI to find jobs you didn't know existed. Describe your skills to an AI, ask for ten matching roles, then research companies hiring, required skills, and how to position yourself. Many roles may already exist in your current organization.

Ultimize. Most people look for jobs in a very narrow way. They go to a job board, they type in a job title, and they scroll. That approach is limiting. AI allows you to expand your view dramatically. Let me show you exactly how. Start by telling AI your background. For example, I have experience in customer service, basic sales, and social media. Then ask, what are 10 job roles I should consider based on this background? You'll immediately see options you'd not thought of before. For example, AI might suggest customer success manager, inside sales representative, social media coordinator, or account manager. Now you go deeper. Pick one of those roles. Ask what companies are hiring for this role right now. Then ask what skills are required for this role. Then ask, how can I position my current experience to fit this role? Now you're not just searching, you're strategizing. Let's take another example. You're a teacher looking to transition careers. You tell AI, I have experience in teaching, curriculum design, and communication. Then ask what non-teaching careers fit those skills. AI might suggest corporate trainer, instructional design, or learning and development. Now you have entirely new career paths. Then you ask, what companies hire for those roles? Then ask, what skills I need to develop? Then ask, how to explain my teaching background in a business context? This is how AI helps you uncover opportunities. Your expertise is very specific. Describe your current experience to AI. Ask for 10 job roles you should consider. And keep in mind, they may be right here at your existing company. You don't necessarily have to look outside. Pick 3 of the 10 suggested, then ask what skills and companies are relevant for each one, because the more options you see, the better decisions you can make.
