First a Horrific Murder — Then a Political Post That Shocked Everyone

TJ Walker delivers a YouTube monologue about the alleged killing of director Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner, reporting that their 32‑year‑old son, Nick Reiner, was arrested in connection with the deaths in the Brentwood neighborhood and that the Los Angeles County DA is reviewing charges. Walker emphasizes the tragedy, links it to long‑standing mental‑health and addiction struggles by the son, and strongly criticizes President Trump for a social‑media post that framed Reiner’s death as related to 'Trump Derangement Syndrome.' Walker cites and rebukes the Trump post, contrasts it with widespread condolences across the political spectrum, and notes Republican criticism of Trump’s remarks.

Los Angeles police say Nick Reiner, the 32 year old son of director Rob Reiner and Michelle Singer Reiner, was arrested and booked in connection with the killing of his own parents. Authorities say the couple were found dead at their home in the Brentwood neighborhood on Sunday afternoon. The case is now under review by the Los Angeles County District Attorney as prosecutors consider formal charges. Police have not publicly announced a motive, and investigators say there's no indication the killings were politically motivated. Okay, what's the real message here? This is a profoundly, profoundly sad story. Rob Reiner and his wife apparently killed by their own son, slitting their throats. There could be no worse family tragedy than something like this, and it's absolutely horrific. Rob Reiner, someone who's given tens, hundreds of millions of people around the world so much joy over the years, going back to his days of starring his meathead on Archie Bunker's all in the Family, a show I remember and loved watching 50 years ago, to Harry Met Sally and so many other movies. And now his life is just over. It's an absolute crisis. And I shouldn't say crisis. It's horrible. Shame is what it is. And we can't blame this on gun culture. It wasn't guns, it was a knife. And no matter how much you love gun control, if you do, no one's really in favor of outlawing, outlawing knives. So this is unfortunately what happens when we live in a society where people suffer mental illness. By all accounts now, the son's not been convicted of anything, but let's not kid ourselves. All the indications are that their own son did this. He's made threats before. They were seen yelling and screaming at each other at Conan o' Brien's holiday party a few hours earlier. So all, all fingers are pointing to the son doing this. Now, I'm not a judge, so it's not improper for me to make that leap. It's not improper for you either, unless you're on the jury. So the son apparently had a long, long history of drug addiction, mental illness, homelessness. And it just makes you realize no matter how good it seems like someone has it, you don't really know what's going on in their life. You don't really know the misery because by all outward appearances, Rob Reiner had it all. Tremendous respect from tens of millions of Americans. And I was one of them who loved his creative output. This is Spinal Tap. He just came out with another new movie, the second Spinal Tap. And so many great movies, so many great television show appearances. A part of Hollywood Royalty. His father, a famous, famous TV comedian and actor. Beloved family and now gone. So you look at someone like this and it makes you think, well, here's someone rich, famous, loved, successful, talented, married, three children. Seems like they have it all. But people were begging him to run for Senate, to even run for president. He had so much respect from so many people and yet the turmoil he must have had for certainly most of his son's life. Son was homeless many times, in and out of drug rehab dozens of times and apparently something snapped and the 32 year old Nick Reiner just slit his own parents throat again. Allegedly. It doesn't seem like there's much doubt right now. So a lot of people grieving this. Now, if you didn't love him, that's okay, you don't have to grieve him. You weren't a personal friend of his and I wasn't a personal friend. You don't have to to grieve him. But this was someone who seen as a genuine hero, a national treasure. So how did people respond? Well, the Screen Actors Guild put out messages of condolence. So many politicians across the political spectrum did, but not one, one politician had to play it a little different. Here is what President Trump put out just hours after this grisly murder tragedy occurred. I want to share with you the whole thing because I do think it is a window into the soul or lack thereof of a particular person, he said. A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and and comedy star, has passed away together with his wife Michelle, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as all in quotes Trump Derangement Syndrome, sometimes referred to as tds. He was known to have driven people crazy by his raging obsession of Donald J. Trump. With his obvious paranoia reaching new heights at the Trump administration. As the Trump administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness. And with the golden age of America upon us, perhaps like never before, may Rob and Michelle rest in peace. Okay folks, if that isn't the single most disgusting thing you've ever heard from, forget a president from any human being. I don't know what is. To think of that as anything other than despicable and contemptible and vile is beyond belief. Now some of you may say, well tj there were, there were liberals and Democrats who made fun of Charlie Kirk, okay, nothing like this. Here's an example of what a Democrat said, or, excuse me, what. What someone in the media said who got fired. This was MSNBC analyst Matthew Dowd fired because of his comments about Charlie Kirk. He said, quote, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. Now, you could say that's not the most delicate thing. But on a scale of, you know, one to a thousand, with a thousand being the most despicable, most vile, cretinous comments you can make, and one being one step up of not just saying condolences, that's a one. What Trump said was a thousand. Let me share with you some more comments about this genuinely sick human being from the White House who thinks everything is about him, who's never yet seen a tragedy or crisis where his first thought wasn't, how can I make myself the main part of the story? How can I use this to bash anyone, to score points and to make myself look big and to put somebody else down. Now, Trump was asked by reporters later in the day, this is, according to the Times, if he really stood by these comments. And here's what Trump said. Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person. I thought he was very bad for our country. So, again, in Trump's worldview, anyone who criticizes him ever isn't simply an honest American of a different political viewpoint. They're deranged. No one's ever had a family dispute or a family member with mental illness. No. It all comes from, if you are ever to criticize Trump, you're fomenting so much hatred, you're basically asking to be murdered. That's essentially what Trump's message was, and it is 10,000 times more sickening and despicable than anything I've ever seen anyone say about Charlie Kirk. And yet, are we really hearing much criticism from these same voices on the right? Well, no, but we are hearing criticism from a lot of Republicans. So you don't need to listen to the MSNBC crowd, the head of the Democratic Party. You can simply listen to other Republicans. And this is an example of Trump really showing how extreme he's become, how unhinged he's become. A man and his wife were murdered last night. This is not the appropriate response. This is from Jenna Ellis, a former Trump lawyer. She's now a conservative radio host, and even she says this is too far. Additionally, quote, the right uniformly condemned political and celebratory responses to Charlie Kirk's death. This is a horrible example from Trump and should be condemned by everyone with decency. This is not from a liberal. This is not from a Democrat. This is from a conservative Republican saying this about what Trump has said. Now, let's not forget this is the guy who criticized Senator John McCain after his death. He also said Trump also suggested that a deceased Democratic lawmaker, John Dingell of Michigan, was looking up from hell right after he died. So, folks, there's class, there's crass, and then there's just despicable beyond belief. Here's a comment from former ESPN host and a Trump ally, Sage Steele, who said the president's post was, quote, so disappointing. It's comments like this that take away from the countless great things at real Donald Trump does for America. Here's another Republican, Thomas Massie, arguably not one of Trump's biggest supporters. Of course, this is one of the few Republicans who has routinely voiced opposition to Trump policies. Still not a liberal, not a Democrat. He says, regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is inappropriate and disrespectful discourse about a man who was just brutally murdered. I guess my elected GOP colleagues, the vice president, and the White House staff will just ignore it because they're afraid I challenge anyone to defend it. Also, as reported in the New York Times, this is from Mike Lawler, Republican of New York. He says this statement is wrong. Regardless of one's political views, no one should be subjected to violence, let alone at the hands of their own son. It's a horrible tragedy that should engender sympathy and compassion for from everyone in our country, period. Marjorie Taylor Greene, again, no liberal Democrat, but someone who has recently seen the light about this president. She said, quote, this is a family tragedy, not about politics or political enemies. She posted that in social media. So, folks, again, I'm not asking you to say, oh, Rob Reiner, big Hollywood liberal Democrat, worst thing in the world that he passed away before reaching the age of 98, which is what his own father was when he died a few years ago. You don't have to go over the top like that, but to relish someone's death and then to incorrectly, factually state that the reason they died was they weren't your fan. I mean, that's hubris. It's arrogance. It's insanity. It's delusion. You know, for all of you people who were so insistent that Joe Biden was too old and out of his mind, Joe Biden never did any. He never said anything remotely as out of touch or as despicable as what this president said before the bodies of Rob Reiner and his wife were even cold.
