What do you do if you're at a networking event or social engagement? You've met someone, you've chatted, but they won't stop talking. You're ready to move on now. What a lot of people do is sort of kind of slide away. Looking around. That feels awkward for you and for them. And it can seem insulting, and you don't want to be insulting. My advice? Look the person in the eye. Do not be looking at other, more interesting people. Shake hands, perhaps, and say, thank you. I've enjoyed spending our time together. I hope you enjoy the rest of the evening. And then smile and walk on. No apologies. It's a graceful exit.
