He recounts his own early mistake of simply transferring an in-person workshop to an online format and concludes that successful online coaching/courses require different stylistic choices than face-to-face instruction.

When I look at the history of technology, I'm reminded by things like, you know, the movie industry. When moving pictures started, they just took a movie set of images of a play or a musical, and so you're watching a movie that looked just like the play. The whole concept of, wow, this is a whole different medium. It didn't occur to people yet. It took a number of years for it to evolve. And, you know, I made that mistake with some of my first online courses. I just tried to do it like my in person course, in person workshop and put it on, and it didn't work. It became its own beast. There's certain stylistic things that are very different for a successful online coach versus online course versus in person.
