This is a YouTube video titled "Goals of Communicating Through Disagreement" created in June 2025. The content features a single speaker discussing strategies for handling disagreements in business and professional contexts, emphasizing the importance of seeking win-win outcomes and maintaining respectful communication even when disagreements occur.
What is our goal here? When it comes to communicating through disagreement? It's not to win a debate. You can win debates all day long and be out of business and unemployed. Unless you're a professional debater. That's not the goal. Our goal here is to have some kind of a win win situation. You have a disagreement with an employee, an employer, a client, a customer, a vendor, you're trying to figure out some common ground where you feel like you're winning, you're succeeding, and ideally the other person, the other party is also winning and they're getting something they want. That's really the ideal world. It should be a win win at some level. Now, I realize it doesn't always happen. There may be times when the disagreement is so strong there's simply no way of coming together that the only solution is you have to say thanks, but no thanks. We can't work together. I don't want to work for you, or you're not a good fit for me. There are times when you simply need to walk away. But even then you can do it in a way that's not disagreeable. You can have disagreements without being disagreeable. I believe in business you always want to lay ground for working together in the future. I know in my own experience as people who wanted to work with me, we couldn't find terms that worked. There were disagreements and lo and behold, a year later, things worked out. Two years later, continuing to work together. So keep in mind the big picture. Yes, there may be that rare circumstance when someone asks you to do something immoral, unethical, illegal, in which case there's no need to have further communication, you just break off communication. But the vast majority of the time I'm assuming you're working with reasonable people, they simply see the world a little differently than you do. They have a different perspective. That's okay. That's what makes it an interesting, vibrant world. So please keep in mind what we're really trying to do. We're trying to create a win for you and your business and, and a win for the people you're dealing with so that everyone benefits together. So keep in mind the big picture. Yes, there may be that rare circumstance when someone asks you to do something immoral, unethical, illegal, in which case there's no need to have further communication. You just break off communication. But the vast majority of the time I'm assuming you're working with reasonable people, they simply see the world.
